Tech/ nerd type stocking fillers - DS 18 and not the least bit laddy

We are away for a week over Christmas and was hoping someone might have ideas for my older boy. I wouldn’t bother but there are a few of us and all getting stockings so it will be a point of discussion.
Anyone found anything small and fun or interesting that are fit to open in front of grandparents? Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Is he a gamer, I got DS some blue gaming glasses.

Maybe a build your own kit, theres loads of electrical ones in existance (Maplin use to sell them, is Maplin still a thing) like build your own robot or radio.

A mug with Java style programer jargon on it.

A wallet ninja type thing.

Bought my 16 year old son two Star Wars Metal Earth models of the Millennium Falcon and Death Star, they are a perfect stocking size.

Gloves with touchscreen thing
Nice pen
Hot choc stirrer thing

Seed bombs
Small Lego set
Multi gadget penknife type thing
Laser spirit level thing (if into DIY at all)
Shower speakers
Fancy shower gel
Goose neck phone stand (actually really useful for zoom calls etc)

If he’s a gamer, you can get decals for games consoles/controllers. I bought DH some years ago expecting them to be a novelty gift and he loved them! Etsy and Amazon have a good range.

Qwertee do great T-shirts and hoodies.

Any of the grown up Lego or Technic sets he’d be interested in? I have got DH the James Bond car set for his stocking. It was £10 on Amazon.

Rubix cube? (Or a variation of)
Super sour sweets (toxic waste, bars or tubs)
HMV had quite a few obscure/pop culture stuff when I looked recently!
Book of riddles?
Card trick set?

Men's manicure set. I've bought this as he keeps nicking my nail clippers so I can never find them when I need them.

Kayjay2018 · 29/11/2022 21:53

Lego are doing a build a day calendar set on their website. Also my DS18 is trying his hand at origami, I've got him a Japanese book with patterned paper to make certain shapes out of. He is getting a new set of chopsticks (he loves Japan and anime etc). Previous years I've popped a Greggs or costa voucher in there. Always a chocolate orange and a real satsuma and some other Christmas chocolates and a whoop or cushion, oh and a rubber duck (family tradition)

Leeds2 · 29/11/2022 22:04

Scratch card.
Retro sweets.
Rubik’s cube.
Trick/stunt yo-yo.
Costa/Nando’s/Gregg’s gift card.

secondaryquandries · 29/11/2022 22:22

Comic or mag subscription

DreamTonight · 29/11/2022 22:34

There's some kind of build a game or build electronic components advent calendar.

I've checked now. It's Haynes and there's a retro radio one and an electronic games one. Those might work for the whole trip.

helplesshopeless · 30/11/2022 07:50

Etsy do some cool LED personalised gamer name light thingies! Just got one for my nerdy OH's stocking :)

lightisnotwhite · 30/11/2022 08:40

Great list!
He’s had most of them already over the years but I forgot he likes Japanese stuff too. I might have a look at chopsticks and things.
People that said manicure kits were right but he buys his own super sharp ones (loves them) and is giving them as gifts to his step sisters.

I'm getting DC (as a stocking filler!) some of that bright green gloop you use to clean keyboards. You could get him a mini keyboard brush cleaner or vaccuum cleaner too.
