Struggling for almost 16 year old DD…help!!

I have 3 DD’s, younger 2 are almost completely done, eldest, 16 I haven’t even started…

I have lots of little ideas, some that she has asked for and will love but unlike her sisters I cannot think of a main present, she has asked for a MacBook but I just don’t think that is going to be possible.

We are very lucky in that both set of grandparents are around and spoil the girls so they have received lots of lovely presents over the year but I’m now running out of options…

She has a record player/vinyl
DM’s
iphone
Fitbit, etc…

One set of grandparents have bought her very expensive converse and the other set tickets for SIX this year.

She is quite a cool kid, into creative arts, LAMDA, performing music, she isn’t particularly girly (would definitely not thank you for any thing fluffy or weighted blanket) but does like clothes and has quite an edgy style, LOVES jewellery but more costume than anything pricey, also LOVES tech…

For context Sisters main presents are

DD 11 showjumping camp and Safety stirrups
DD 14 Apple Watch Safety stirrups

Does anyone have any ideas, did think about a theatre workshop and another brand of laptop but I’m not sure it will seem pale in comparison if she has her heart set on a MacBook…

Could you get a refurbished mac book?

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 29/11/2022 11:40

At 16 if you can't afford the nacbook it should be a fairly straightforward conversation to say it's not doable. She can then decide to look at other options or whether she would be happy with something along the lines of nacbook as joint birthday and Christmas gift (with birthday contributions from grandparents if necessary) or has money she would be happy to chip in?

Or gps can chip in?

Yeah I’d def have the convo before about cost of macbook and I’m sure she’d compromise (look at refurbs though can sometimes get a bargain ish especially if considering a laptop anyway) my dd contributed when she was after an iPad that I said was too much of a stretch and it probably ended up a 40/60 split in her favour which she paid in instalments to me 😆 I think I may have let her off with another 1 or 2 along the way but it was a price/compromise that all parties were happy with.

Ask her. Say macbook is too expensive but she can have another present or money towards it. Better to have money towards something she actually wants and that will be useful than an expensive random present just for the sake of it.

Sounds like you and all her grandparents are pretty well off so it's not as if the macbook is completely out of reach for the near future if she was happy to have money now, and for her next birthday, and earn some extra herself to top it up.
