A tip for our postman. Is it ok to just put money in a card?

Just that really. DH and I didn’t think to do it last year. We have a regular postman. I don’t want to just give him biscuits or chocolates. He is no doubt lugging enough stuff around. Ok a fiver isn’t exactly exciting but it’s easier to carry around and spend on whatever he wants.
My husband was a postman and tips at Christmas were common then but a long time ago so culture changes. Are you are postie? What would you think? Do you tip your postie?
Please stay polite people can get very nasty on MN about just about anything and everything. I have social anxiety. I don’t want to upset or offend anyone.

I always give ours cash, in a card.

We are rarely at home so we don't see them to hand over in person, but leave the postie's card in our letterbox, the bin lorry one sellotaped to the bin where they will see it and hopefully no one else will, milkman's goes out late with the empties and veg box man's goes out tucked into last week's box.

Great idea. I have every intention of giving my postman a tip and I also do for my regular delivery guys .

Never know what to give as a tip so they all get a box of M&S extremely chocolaty biscuits. We have a garden waste crew recycling and normal waste van. Then the window cleaner milkman and I take the postman’s biscuits into the sorting office. I give them well before Christmas the refuse people eyes light up when I hand them over suspect they are eaten before they get to the depot especially on a cold wet night.
