Christmas at Kew - is it different every year?

We went to KaC for the first time last year and loved it.

We've bought tickets for this year, but just wanted to check if it's the same every year, or there are new installations each year.

Just to manage my own expectations really!

i didn’t go last year but in previous years it’s been similar but different each year - I find it feels more and more crowded each year though (which is why I’ve stopped going!)

Thanks @Haus1234 I'd imagined that they have to keep at least some of it fresh.

We were lucky (in most zones) last year that is seemed reasonably quiet.. probably because we were with slow walking DD so the groups/crowds passed us by.

I’ve been three times and they re-use some installations but seem to have something new every year. I found it really quiet last year too, but we did go on a rainy evening!

Same @goslinggirl it was drizzling throughout.

But I was pleased for it to be quiet.

And it somehow made the flame torches feel more primal (as if they were from a time before electricity) and the strangely warped Christmas music carried across the lake felt post-apocalyptic... like the last recording of humanity saved in a time capsule...

(Turns out that being a teenage goth never leaves you, even as an entirely respectable 43 year old mother).

As other posters have said it’s similar but different. We’ve done 4 years in a row now and are giving it a miss this year as it feels a bit overdone.

This year is actually very different to previous - maybe a bit of an update because it's a big anniversary? Some nice new food stalls too!

Startuplife · 28/11/2022 10:22

Oh no now I wish we were going! DP did ask last week if we should buy tickets. Clearly completely oblivious to the fact I usually buy our tickets in Spring when they go on sales and the end of November is not the time to decide you fancy going after all!

This year feels very different as it is a different walking route.
Installations are always different and I think more were to music this year.
it was fab!

Oh that’s annoying. We have been last few years but decided to skip this year. Typical!
