What’s some movies or a movie (non Christmas) that you only watch at Christmas
for me when I was a kid I always remember watching these around Christmas and new year.
bedknobs and broomsticks
Mary poppins (Julie Andrew’s version)
chitty chitty bang bang
Forrest gump
matilda

I always watch Harry Potter 1-8 on the week running up to Christmas, I also watch this during the year aswell but always have to watch at Christmas.

Not a film, but we always watch The Box of Delights in the run-up to Christmas. It's like watching films though, because we usually watch the whole series in 2 sittings!

Bathtubbathing · 24/11/2022 22:22

Oliver!
Die Hard
LOTR extended edition trilogy

FrauleinEngelhart · 24/11/2022 22:25

Planes trains and automobiles

Eyesopenwideawake · 24/11/2022 22:27

Mine is My Beautiful Son (AKA Strange Relations) starring Paul Reiser as a Jewish New Yorker who finds out that he was adopted and is the illegitimate son of a Catholic scouser, played beautifully by Julie Walters. As an adoptee it means a lot to me and on the Christmas days I spent alone it was a great comfort.

Also Drop Dead Fred, strangely for similar reasons!!

freyamay74 · 24/11/2022 22:28

Love Actually
Elf
Die Hard

Every year without fail!

snowmanshoes · 24/11/2022 22:28

Original Annie for me when I was little - ahh the memories

snowmanshoes · 24/11/2022 22:30

Christmas movie wise absolutely have to watch Scrooged and Christmas with the Kranks without fail

bananafishbones1 · 24/11/2022 22:34

Willy wonka (with a dairy milk little bar) as that's what I did as a child.
planes trains and automobiles - I could watch this at other times but I save it for Christmas!
I used to watch miracle on 34 th street but I don't want the children to watch and ask questions - might wait until they are in their 20's!! 😂

ohfook · 24/11/2022 22:35

I always start watching the Harry potters mid November. I totally think of them as Christmas films!

Exactly, they were always on in the week between Christmas and new year... I still have perfect memories of that time. It’s the one time of year that I hate change 🥺

I've never seen Die Hard. I want to watch it this year. Has anyone seen Love Hard? Very cute Christmas rom-com with lots of Die Hard references that I didn't get.

Finally watched Elf last year but that actor gives me the creeps, so didn't enjoy it.

frozendaisy · 24/11/2022 23:33

I make the family (males) watch Bridget Jones I only get one shot a year

WisteriaLodge · 25/11/2022 00:28

Ooh, I love these types of threads! Here's mine:
Home Alone
Murder on the Orient Express (1974 version)
The Holiday
A Christmas Carol (1984)
A Muppet Christmas Carol
Scrooged
The Nativity BBC 2010, not so much a film but it was a four part drama when aired, but when you watch the DVD it's obviously like a film.

Cakewineorgin · 25/11/2022 02:32

@Fairislefandango Do you have this on DVD? I loved this and The Children of Green Knowe as a child. They always signalled that Christmas was coming.

caroleanboneparte · 25/11/2022 03:06

Gone with the wind
Carry on films
It's a wonderful life
Home alone
National Lampoon Christmas
Gremlins
Scrooged
Trading Places

WisteriaLodge · 25/11/2022 19:30

I forgot to add National Lampoon Christmas!

Autumnalleavestime · 25/11/2022 19:32

Die hard and bad Santa.

Openmouthinsertfood · 25/11/2022 20:45

Does anybody remember Digby, the Biggest Dog in the World ? I used to love watching that at Christmas! Xmas Grin
Also always used to watch Wizard of Oz. Now it's probably Christmas with the Kranks and National Lampoons.

Lalalaleeloo · 25/11/2022 20:46

Everyone is just listing Christmas films...

I don't have any non-christmassy films I watch every year.
I was unfortunate enough to see Oliver! 2 years in a row when over at ILs though.
