@SkylightSkylight but it is all just stuff. I'm not trying to be inspirational. Or a bitch. It just depresses me how people feel the need to buy so much. And this kind of thread puts pressure on people to do just that.

Queenofheart · 25/11/2022 06:17

SkylightSkylight · 24/11/2022 20:49

@whichwayiwonder well, that's inspirational🙄🙄

why not just scroll past the thread instead of bitch plopping?

love this 😂😂😂😂

lugeforlife · 25/11/2022 06:44

@whichwayiwonder I do get you. I struggle with my own list for this reason but we tend to use Christmas to buy normal but nicer iyswim although I do buy the odd stupid thing.

To the point this year for dh

Stephen King book
T-shirt with his favourite American football team on it
KFC voucher (yes he is 12....)
I will be getting him a hori garden tool to replace crappy secateurs
Puzzle book
Gold coins
The stupid thing I got him is a gallilio weather station thing. It looks pretty and he and my mother talk about weather endlessly.

Wallywobbles · 25/11/2022 06:50

I've just ordered an 'old bookshop' candle scent and some punny 'grandad' plant markers

autumn1610 · 25/11/2022 07:07

So we just do stockings for each other.m rather than spend a lot. So far a mini nerf gun, book, moisturiser

will get a few more little things then top up with some chocolates and sweets

BestIsWest · 25/11/2022 08:00

DP is getting
Nike trainers
a book he asked me for
lush gift box
levis hoody
Nike Jordan hoody
puma tshirt
adidas tshirt
box of Lindor dark

Mapanas · 25/11/2022 23:04

In the past I have done food subscriptions like the spicery and the craft gin club was a gift that we both enjoyed! Or a deli charcuterie style hamper - lots of companies do this. This year it is car care kits from Laysons. Practical gift, but better products than they would ever buy themselves and the packaging looks more gift like if that makes sense?!

Aria999 · 25/11/2022 23:25

Normally cashmere sweater and/ or Star Wars Lego

Theoldwoman · 26/11/2022 10:28

Nothing yet, but lots of great ideas, thank you.

AliasGrape · 26/11/2022 10:50

I’m stuck this year to be honest.

We’ve set a budget of £50 ish. We’ve been doing quite a lot with the house and want to look at either moving or extending next year so can’t

I picked up some boots in the sale for £30 - they’re not the best brand but not bad quality and an upgrade on his current ‘just for knocking about in’ footwear which are some really knackered old trainers.

I’ll probably spend the rest on beer, chocolate and some kind of cured meat products. Maybe a book if I can find something WW2 related he doesn’t already own

Previous winners of different budgets have been:
brewery tour
concert tickets
credit card size multi tool thing for wallet
Swiss Army knife
Huge jar of pork scratchings
Clay pigeon shooting - organised with his best friend’s wife so basically packed them off together for the day
Pizza stone

Startuplife · 26/11/2022 10:58

This is my DPs list.

UGG slippers
Electric toothbrush
North Face gilet
Insulated water bottle
Reiss Oud aftershave
Hunter wellies
Electric handwarmer
Gas for his soda stream

For his birthday he got the new Alexa with the clock and a Ring doorbell which both went down very well.

BestIsWest · 26/11/2022 11:03

Oh yes, the credit card Swiss Army thing was a hit here too.
Just had a request for a pea coat (he has been watching Shetland and admiring Jimmy Perez’s) so I’ve ordered one.
Cashmere jumper is a good shout actually.
Thinking of getting a pasta machine as he did buy one in Aldi recently but wasn’t happy with it and sent it back.

LolaSmiles · 26/11/2022 11:06

For his stocking I'm probably getting some shaving/beard care products, chocolate, socks, a book.
For his main present under the tree, he usually asks for something technical linked to one of his hobbies and unromatically orders it himself from the joint account or sends me a link to the item.

Beebumble2 · 26/11/2022 11:27

So far, racquet/ bat for newly taken up sport and a merino base layer top.
the rest will be a book ( he likes reading obscure historical factual books), some aftershave ( the only time he gets any) and then anything that inspires me while I’m out shopping.

AliasGrape · 26/11/2022 11:35

Balls, after posting the above I just had a mad moment and blew the budget on some other stuff.

Got a soda stream sparkling water maker - they had a kit on Black Friday deal for £60 and I had a code that took it down to £54

Then got him a spitfire Lego kit £15 but I had Amazon vouchers from market research so used those.

May or may not return the boots mentioned above.

Still feel a bit mean as feel like the presents are more ‘for me’ this hear i.e. I was sick of the sight of the scruffy trainers so got the boots, the endless plastic bottles we get through because he loves sparkling water worry me so the soda stream was inspired by that (though I think he will enjoy it). Hence the daft Lego kit and probably some chocolate as well!

mondaytosunday · 26/11/2022 16:04

My son is getting a telescope. A bit pricey but seems a good entry level one is about £200.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2022 16:36

Dad - whiskey tasting

DP - so far he's got the Bob Mortimer book and some Paul Smith pants. I'll probably get him a couple more books, some nice chocolate, some brandy and some cheese. Maybe a scarf if I see a nice one.

SeatonCarew · 26/11/2022 18:36

DH

A nice cotton dressing gown from Tom, Dick and Harry
( He already has one of their kimonos which he loves and I think is really attractive - great gift)

Some good whisky

A couple of books on different subjects that I know he'll love

EmmaStone · 26/11/2022 19:05

DH: some cycling shorts and base layer (nice brand that he wouldn't buy himself, but 25% off in JL). This will be his Xmas PJs equivalent (I buy new PJs for us all for Xmas Eve, but he doesn't wear PJs, so he gets sportswear).

Richard Osman book

Cribbage set (he used to play with his family as a child, so thought he'd enjoy!)

Cashmere jumper (also JL Black Fri deal)

Hard drive that he wanted

Travel books for our summer trip (ordering a few for whole family I think)

Pants and socks Grin

villamariavintrapp · 26/11/2022 19:51

An ember mug. Socks.
