Token (<£10) present for 7yo boy who I've not actually met?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/11/2022 15:12

For reasons too dull and complicated to explain there will be a 7yo boy I've not yet met calling in to ours on Christmas Day evening. I'd like to have a small something wrapped up by way of a welcome. Any safe bets? At that age craft stuff was a banker for my DDs but that was a thousand years ago...

Uno, lego, top trumps, fidget toy?

TheSausageKingofChicago · 23/11/2022 15:27

I’d go with chocolate

Oncemoreforluck · 23/11/2022 15:28

I’m in a similar situation this year with an 8 year old boy. I bought a ‘build your own marble run ‘ from Home Bargains for less than a tenner.

Bigbugfish · 23/11/2022 15:30

I have a boy of a similar age - he'd want a Hot Wheels car and maybe a book and some chocolate! Or a game - B&M have loads for around £10 of the type mentioned above, e.g. Pop up Pirate, Crocodile Dentist, etc. Card games are always good too, Top Trumps (football/cars/dinosaurs) is a current favourite.

spiderontheceiling · 23/11/2022 15:32

Will he be at yours for a period of time with just adults for company? If so, I'd give him something he can do by himself so it can keep him entertained whilst he's at yours.
Lego, colouring book and pens or various of the other indoor activity things suggested. I wouldn't go for something like a football in that situation as, even if he loves it, he won't be able to use it there and then.

carefulcalculator · 23/11/2022 15:32

I think if I was buying for my own I would suggest a few little cheap things - book (£7), chocolate orange (£1), pack of cards (£1), spinning top (£1) - would make a nice gift in a bag.

bluechameleon · 23/11/2022 15:32

One of the £8/£9 Lego sets and a chocolate orange would do my 8 year old very nicely.

Hopemax · 23/11/2022 15:34

Sweets or chocolate, and a fidget toy or blind bag Lego minifigure.

thanks - good point about having something to play with immediately while us old folk drone on about boring stuff.

On the basis that I'd quite like it myself I thought this lego dinosaur might work?

Lego dinosaur would have been v appreciated by DS at that age.

ABlindAssassin · 23/11/2022 15:54

Yes that's perfect!

Lego would be your best bet to keep him busy if he is the only child

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 23/11/2022 17:21

The dinosaur looks great! Make sure you tell him he can play with it there and then as he might feel its more polite to wait til he gets home - thats what my niece and nephew used to do until we told them just to wire in.

frenchnoodle · 23/11/2022 21:10

Great choice!

ILS1983 · 25/11/2022 12:50

Trump cards work well with my DD! Helps if you know what kind of toys or sport they might like. They can just look at the pics or stats or play games

FLOWER1982 · 25/11/2022 12:52

Rubix cube
sticky men
football
book
sweets

emmathedilemma · 25/11/2022 13:16

my nephew would love you for that lego kit!

EcoCustard · 25/11/2022 17:17

small lego set or one of there small box of bricks. And chocolate or sweets.

Needmorelego · 25/11/2022 17:20

That Lego dinosaur is a fantastic set. Definitely get something like that.
