Give me your most lavish Christmas breakfast

We're not having Christmas lunch this year.

We've decided on a lavish Christmas brunch, long walk, then dinner in evening.

Give me your most decadent breakfast/brunch that won't destroy the kitchen but will feel special.

Waitrose all butter muffins, toasted, buttered and topped with spinach, smoked salmon, poached duck eggs and hollandaise.

fruitstick · 22/11/2022 19:17

I'm not sure I've ever had a duck egg. Are they far superior to a chicken?

Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and croissants. Probably would be sustainable until the evening though.

Peeeas · 22/11/2022 19:28

Hotel style breakfast - scrambled eggs per pp, fresh fruit, granola with compote (homemade - in advance ofc- there's a great Nigeria granola recipe!), mini muffins, etc

FartOutLoudDay · 22/11/2022 19:30

Cooked breakfast but with super high-end versions of everything?

Chattycathydoll · 22/11/2022 19:32

Fresh, warm from the oven cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting melted on. And sprinkles.

fruitstick · 22/11/2022 19:33

Definitely cinnamon buns sounds amazing.

Maybe they can be the first thing stocking opener, with muffins and scrambled eggs a bit later.

I’d do really good versions of a big ‘normal’ breakfast - especially as we have ‘branded down’ on so many things for financial reasons.
some ideas (I wouldn’t do all of these)

smoked back bacon, really nice butter, selection of bread.
some of those bake from frozen pastries.
luxury yogurts.
smoothies if you like (I don’t); juices, champagne, Buck’s Fizz, freshly ground coffee.
honey, lemon curd (luxury end) nut butters, jam.
Any fruits that you might usually think of as too expensive - one year I bought a big punnet of cherries and another of fat raspberries and the kids enjoyed them for a few mornings.
scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.
oh and as pp said, those lush English muffins toasted.

onepieceoflollipop · 22/11/2022 19:35

Plus (of course) a selection box each for the second course…

Juliejuly · 22/11/2022 19:35

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, pastries, a fancy fruit platter, very good quality coffee and tea, and of course proper Buck’s Fizz or just champagne.

We do a fancy hot chocolate with whipped cream during stocking-opening time as the oven heats up for breakfast. Feels so festive!

Witheringheights83 · 22/11/2022 19:36

Oysters followed by scrambled eggs made with double cream, grated truffle, lobster and brioche with champagne.

You said lavish right...?!

Luckydog7 · 22/11/2022 19:37

Ah! We have a traditional victorian breakfast as an ancestor was a house keeper for a big estate and she took after her employer.

Pie and tongue!
Usually home made venison pie with plum chutney. Tongue is boiled sliced cow tongue (it a bit like corned beef) with mustard. Lashings of warm bread, sliced with butter.

As new people have married into the family and have looked a little green at what's on offer we have diversified somewhat abd usually do a batch of those frozen crossants/pain au chocolat you can buy in tescos and bake. Much nicer then normal shop bought ones.

Whataretheodds · 22/11/2022 19:37

Kedgeree
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels
Shakshuka
Croissants and cinnamon buns
Yoghurt with figs and nuts
Bucks fizz ad bloody mary

Dontaskdontget · 22/11/2022 19:41

Pret chocolate croissants (cook from frozen, buy in Sainsburys). Fresh fruit salad with melon pineapple etc. Then smoked salmon on English muffins with scrambled egg.

DH loves a truffle, and DS and I like smoked salmon so scrambled eggs is a definite winner.

I'd love a lobster for breakfast but that might be pushing it!

Haha, its certainly not a light breakfast especially as we have it at about 10am and then xmas lunch at 2-3pm. Yes the tongue is not especially popular with the new comers, its mostly the hardcore family member clinging onto the tradition. My husband has expressed relief when i made him an alternative last year and said it was a much better start to the day.

Polpette · 22/11/2022 19:46

You can buy frozen lobster claws from Waitrose, not too hideously expensive.

Lobster Benedict is incredible, very rich but delicious.

I'm also a fan of extra thick French toast with an array of toppings to choose from and lots of fruit.

Notjustamum28 · 22/11/2022 19:49

We host a Boxing Day Breakfast which includes, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bacon, pigs in blankets, croissants, toasts and jams/marmalades, choc spread, (and usually a cereal choice as kids there too! 😄)fruit, nice coffee, fresh juices, mimosa's, all laid out Christmas dinner style, with crackers and Christmas tableware. its very popular!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/11/2022 19:49

DS won't eat breakfast , unless it;s a Selection Box (he's 23 so he can do what he wanrs Xmas Grin ) or maybe pancakes and syrup

DH would like :
fresh made bread , toasted (I've got a breadmaker so I set it overnight )
scrambled eggs
vegetarian sausages
fried mushrooms
potato scones
coffee

DD will want toast and vegetarian bacon, maybe scrambled eggs

I might have pancakes if I'm doing them otherwise toast , marmalade or orange curd , coffee , orange juice

paleviolet · 22/11/2022 19:49

Kedgeree
Along with fresh baked croissant...preferably French from the freezer, found in Waitrose and on Ocado. French butter.
Warmed baguettes and apricot preserve.
Platters of berries served alongside a luxury yogurt.
Champagne, fresh orange juice, fresh pomegranate juice. Raspberry liqueur.
Great coffee with hot milk and cream in jugs.

Dreikanter · 22/11/2022 19:50
