My 15 year old DD has asked for a Mac book this year and I’m considering getting her a refurbished one but really not sure where to start, what I could be looking for memory/age wise and also what is a good deal.

She is very arty and and is taking 4 A levels next year including music and performing arts which will include production and she already has other apple products so know it would benefit it greatly but we definitely can’t afford to buy a brand new one so this seems like the next best thing…

Does anyone have any advice?

I don't have any experience of using a refurbed MacBook, but I do know that Apple do educational discounts on new products and it sounds v much like your daughter fits the bill to qualify - www.apple.com/uk-edu/store

For what she is going to use it for, a MacBook Air would probably be enough for what she needs. Appreciate it's still a huge amount of money to spend though.

The newest MacBook Air is called an M2.

The previous model (M1) is still super great but you’ll get it cheaper.

I bought a refurbished desk top from the apple shop online, it was as good as new really! They also come with a warranty and you save quite a bit. I would definitely do it again.

Macs refurbish well. If it were for myself, I'd get a slightly older Pro rather than an Air because the Airs I've had were lousy. They struggle with Windows software and freeze and crash. All the Pros I've had have been great. My mum uses my first 12 year old one and it's still going strong.

I bought my last MacBook Pro from Apple as a refurb. It was 18 months old at the point I bought it, and it lasted 8 years (actually still works but I decided to replace it with a newer model last year). I highly recommend it.

Have a look here, www.apple.com/uk/shop/refurbished/mac
maybe take her to an Apple shop, so that she can discuss what she needs with them?
and yes use the educational discount

I would also recommend the macbook pro over the air. They have a bit more oomph if she wants to run the Adobe suite/ logic pro software. I always get them refurbished.
