I would like to buy the family ethical gifts this Christmas, and whilst i know giving to charity and not adding unnecessary'things' is the best way to do this - we buy very little for eachother through the year so i want to buy gifts. What great products have you found this year that also give something back? And ideas?

I don't know about ethical, but I'm buying family things they can eat/ use/read/do etc so there's not much physical-footprint

I'm sponsoring a donkey, I'm getting tickets for animal experiences at zoos. Wildlife centres and so on. Nice cakes and biscuits from small independent bakeries. Vouchers for downloads.

My least favourite thing is being given a physical thing that takes up house and head space.

They have loads of other stuff and have artists with parkinsons, autism etc so it feels like I'm doing good. I think it's even a social enterprise.

I have come across these two sites recently and bought from both...they are charities/ social enterprises.

I’ve bought quite a few people an annual membership to Monkey World in Dorset, a sanctuary for abused and rescued monkeys (from circuses, animal testing labs, pet trade etc) after an MNer mentioned it on a thread I was on. I’ve also bought loads of chocolate orang-utans from a company called Chococo - palm oil free, pure cocoa butter, plant monkey-friendly trees with the profits - for the sort of people like colleagues and clients I usually give chocolates to. Much nicer than just boosting a big companies shareholders.

I didn’t mean them both to be monkey-themed! I just happened to come across them. I like moneys only as much as the next person.
