Sounds odd, but he's been banging on about a new hoover for over a year! He been eying up Sharks, even today in Costco and Asda he made a bee-line for them.

My dad said it was wrong to buy domestic appliances for your spouse! 🤣

What domestic appliances have people bought for their other half at Xmas and got away with and the gift had been well received?

P.S My husband is always hoovering and hates the pink Hetty so thought about time he had one he likes 😁

For me, coffee makers, fancy knives for a keen chef, baking accessories for people who love baking etc are ok presents, but normal appliances (hoovers, dishwashers, irons) are just something that's bought for the house, not the individual. It's not special enough to be a present.

I would be hacked off if I got something from the latter category as a surprise.

My pressure washer is one of my favourite birthday presents ever and my K-mix a close second. For this Christmas, I'd love a bread maker

nophonesonbed · 19/11/2022 19:27

Poor sod you should have got him a Henry

I got Dh a shark vacuum for Christmas last year, he loves it.

JustKeepSlimming · 19/11/2022 19:37

I got a Shark for Christmas a few years ago, and love it! I had been needing a new vacuum cleaner though, and had asked DH to get me a Shark. He does loads of stuff around the house, but never vacuuming, so it's all mine! I can't be bothered with getting stuff I don't want or need, so it was a great present. Wouldn't do it unless I knew the person would appreciate it though!

Well, men used to be encouraged to buy them for the little lady, so I guess this redresses the balance a bit.

My DH bought me a Ninja dual air fryer for my birthday. He knew I was after one but could never find one in stock. I would much rather that than him waste money on a 'surprise' that I didn't really want or would use.

Not a DH( got rid!) but I bought two of my DS's Airfryers last year and they were both over the moon

MistyGreenAndBlue · 20/11/2022 21:42

Haha if I bought DH a vac for Christmas I think he'd cry.
I would too tbh.
Even if he said he wanted one (he wouldn't)

For my 30th I received a Kenwood mixer - I'm 55 and it's still going strong like the food processor we were given as a housewarming present when in our 20's! Also received a sewing machine in the past and I love it too. DH always says frying pans if anyone asks what he wants.... Our eldest daughter asked for a food processor for her 21st and my parents loved giving it to her. So we like receiving 'useful' things.

I'll never forget my Dad buying my Mum a microwave for Christmas and she was horrified!! she was not impressed at all...he never lived it down! Back in the 80s when they were enormous and he had hidden it under my cabin bed! 😂

We have a Shark for the kitchen and we hate it.

I am buying my husband a Sage coffee machine for Christmas. But if he bought me
an appliance, I’d divorce him.

LubaLuca · 20/11/2022 22:15

I would be quite upset if I was given a household appliance, even if it was something I'd said would be useful. We need a new tumble dryer and I've got my eye on a particular one, but I'd be insulted if my husband bought it 'for me' as a Christmas treat.

I'm waiting for the January sale when I can probably save a bit and it won't be my very own, special dryer.

Loves it. Always whizzing it round.
It was a sure fire hit.
Our toddler follows him, trying to help push it round and help 🤣
