Ninja is the one that's being advertised on telly a lot at the moment.

greenacrylicpaint · 19/11/2022 08:20

what's the budget?

nice knifes are expensive. you can easily spend north of 300 for one.

having said that, the ikea one (the more expensive one) is decent quality.

Allsnotwell · 19/11/2022 08:22

I like the Joseph Joseph ones

startingtosmileagain · 19/11/2022 09:11

I was looking to spend around £70. she’s never made a suggestion before so I’ve already got her a lovely cashmere jumper and don’t really want to spend a lot, but also know you’ve got to spend a fair bit to get decent ones. So I’m going to spend more than I really want to, hence why looking for a good deal/ recommendation. So I can get her the best for the money. Thanks

Try TKMaxx - some are great quality.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/11/2022 09:13

Procook have some good deals. I’ve bought a knife set for my brother not in a block but it looks great and very good value.

ImNotOnTwitterButMySupportGoldfinchTweets · 19/11/2022 09:17

Yes I’d recommend TKMaxx too. More chance of getting a decent one reduced.

Frogsalad · 19/11/2022 09:24

I bought a knife block set from this site a couple of years ago and really love it still. www.hartsofstur.com/food-preparation-storage/knives-cutting/kitchen-knives/knife-sets.html

Perhaps just get a good quality nice set? Easy to buy a knife block when needed. The universal knife blocks you can get are great. Even better you may find some decent knives on offer and can buy a universal block like this Viners Kitchen Duo Universal Knife Block & Utensil Holder Pot | Jet Black amzn.eu/d/7ilDDFF

Are TK Maxx still selling knives near you? Near me they have stopped selling knives told me it was company policy to reduce knife crime (?!).

The ones I always used to buy from TK Maxx which are excellent and dishwasher safe and still satisfactory so far (5 years in) were Richardson Sheffield Sabatier - and I think they used to say Chrome Molybdenum Vanadium on them.

I do have a really good steel though which helps keep everything sharp and I'm not sure what the steel in their sets will be like.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 19/11/2022 09:34

Brand Alley have got some at the moment.

ArcaneWireless · 19/11/2022 09:35

QVC are selling a sabatier knife block set this week at a ‘deal’ price of about £48 (Inc P&P)

paintitallover · 19/11/2022 09:36

Hearts of Stur is a good company.

Mine has completely stopped selling them too. I asked an assistant where their knives were the other day because I wanted to buy a new bread knife, and she said they stopped selling knives some time ago.

Run4it2 · 19/11/2022 10:00

Tk maxx usually do great value sets

actualnamechange · 19/11/2022 10:03

I bought a pro cook set a few months back, I am really happy with them.

TangoTarantella · 19/11/2022 10:04

Get her to ‘pay’ you a penny for them when you give them to her. My mum makes me do this because giving someone a knife cuts the friendship.

Perfect28 · 19/11/2022 10:06

Personally I would buy one really good knife for your budget.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 19/11/2022 10:13

My brother bought this block for me one year and I have been very pleased with it. The bread knife is good and there's a good range of sizes. The knives do need regular sharpening though. You could get her a sharpening steel for her birthday!

TabithaTittlemouse · 19/11/2022 10:20

Following as DH would like some new knifes

My gran always used to say this too. Severs the friendship. Very important.

I second Pro Cook. I have one of theirs and it's great.

Came on to say exactly this, makes me think of my late mum too.

Sabatier knife block half price on knives

My DS wants professional Japanese knives but he’s left handed and single bladed ones are rare as hens teeth.
