Christmas decs with kittens!

I have two Siamese kittens, they're full grown, just, but race around all the time. Anyone else in a similar situation and what are you doing about decorations?

I've decided against a tree because they'll both climb it. I'd still like the place to look a bit Christmassy, but stylishly 🤷‍♀️

I have a mantelpiece but they'll knock everything off it, so standing things or hanging will be best.

I think we need a photo of the kittens before we can advise you! 😸

My 2 are now 6 and one still climbs the tree. I think she likes looking out of the window from a higher vantage point 🤣. I just packed away all of my vintage decorations and now have a mix of non-glass, felt decorations, etc. Our last cat was almost 20 at his last Christmas and still knocked the decorations off the tree or on tables so I’m afraid to say its not going to get any better 🤭

One of mine steals the Christmas tree chocolates! One has been known to open the odd present. Basically, nothing is reliably safe. My two cats are nearly 5, maybe this year will be better?

Pixiedust1234 · 18/11/2022 15:59

hmmm...its very difficult to say. I think we need photos of the hooligans first Grin

All cats are different. Both of ours were outside hunters and tree climbers but the first only climbed the Christmas tree after we hid her (catnipped) present in it. The second didn't even notice the tree until the day we took it down and she kept looking at the "space " to the tree and back again, she was so puzzled 😂The second cat was with us for six Christmases but only climbed the tree one year. Apparently a certain red bauble kept giving her backchat and needed to be smacked.

We had a tree last year with two kittens. Be interesting to see how they are this year. I think they know after the first attempt the tree can’t hold their weight unlike our fake one and we did put the decs up high. They did like to knock things off so it’s just being careful with placement so they can still sit on the window sills.

Thought this thread would be about decorations with kittens on.

I agree we need a pic of the little hooligans so we can best advise.

I tied the tree to the wall last year. The cat still climbed it but at least it didn't fall over.

My kittens have already ruined two lots of thin copper wire lights, and destroyed my hanging snowman decoration. They do go outdoors but have taken a liking to running and climbing up the chimney breast walls like a couple of squirrels. l will have no wallpaper left, they have lots of scratch posts and a huge cat tower.
Good job l love them and not houseproud. Meanwhile the older kitten, 7 months, half Maine coon and enormous for his age is determined on dragging large dead rats through the cat flap and leaving them around the house, his way maybe of adding to the seasonal decor. It's all good fun.

Sorry I forgot the obligatory photo! 😂

That's a great idea but I don't think I can,

Oh god, this! One of mine does this too! The wallpaper is hanging off in threads around the windows! 😭

I'm glad mine don't go out! But my old cat used to bring rats in, usually babies he'd let go so they ran around the house until I caught them 😩 but once a large dead one he then started to eat 🤢

They are gorgeous @Nowyouseemenowy0udont !
Are they red point and seal point? Are they from the same litter??

I put my Christmas tree in a room my cats don't have access to - all the other decs will be as high up as possible!

Christmas bells make great cat toys - we always have a few kicking around the hall as ours (also Siamese) have major FOMO and it's a great way to find any hidden cats 🐱

Nowyouseemenowy0udont · 19/11/2022 10:30

They're not from the same litter, the darker one is a blue point, but quite dark, he's 11 months old and the red point is crossed Siamese Tonkinese, he's 6 months old. They're best buddies though.

Maybe wall (high up) and ceiling decorations might be an alternative. Let your non furry DC’s have a mini tree in their bedrooms if they are old enough and keep the kitties out. They are gorgeous.

PatChauncey · 19/11/2022 10:42

He is dark for a blue point - very gorgeous!

I didn't think you could get seal/blue and red from the same litter - thank you for clarifying!

They're not from the same litter. I think it's possible though, depending on their genes.
