Grandparents Gifts. How do you do it?

My mum has always given me say £100 each for my dds for Christmas and Birthdays. I then choose what I think they would like. Order and wrap it and put it together with the rest and say this is what grandma bought you.

When myself and siblings were little my grandma chose all our gifts herself. Wrapped them and gave them to us after lunch so we had more gifts to look forward too.

This year I'm thinking of handing the gifts to my mum but I don't think she will see the point. She never wrapped when we were younger. I did it all.

Their other nan usually gives them pjs and £20. I give them that money to spend on what they wish.

How does it work in your family?

I'm Granny so I buy and wrap the gifts I choose. I do sometimes check whether dgs would like something or whether he already has it but mostly I buy things that I think he would like and tell dd so that she doesn't duplicate.

My parents- they request and I provide precise details, they purchase and either send to us for me to wrap, or wrap themselves and bring over or keep until we see them depending on plans (we live several hours away)

DH’s parents- they ask and I provide suggestions which they ignore and buy something the wrong size/they already have, wrapping and delivery as above.

My parents buy and wrap. Sometimes they ask what DC would like, sometimes they see something they think they would like.

PIL also buy and wrap. They ask what DC want usually then buy something similar but cheaper along with random stuff from Amazon now MIL has worked out how to use it.

As GP’s we do much the same.

My parents ask for a list and buy and wrap.

PIL send money and leave it to me to buy and wrap. Which is fine as the year they bought stuff themselves they had it sent to me and I still had to wrap. At least this way I bargain hunt and DCs get more for the money.

Same for birthdays.

We agree a budget, and I find something 'fun but educational' if I can for each. I show them a picture and they agree it, I buy and wrap, then hand to them on Christmas Day to gift.

PILs are a few years younger than my parents and more able. They ask the DCs directly what they want, we coordinate to make sure no duplicates (this year DD3 is telling anyone who will listen that she wants a double toy pram); they buy/make themselves and wrap.

I have done all the buying and often wrapping from my dmum for more years than I can remember.
Not doing that with my grandchild. I thoroughly enjoy buying her gifts. Won't see her open them this year but so be it. Next year is our turn!

My four older DGC , 2x DGS aged 16 , and 2DGD aged 17 all get £100 . My other DGD will be 11 a few days after Christmas and up to now I have bought her toys but doesn’t seem to bother with them anymore so this year I have bought her a Pandora bangle with 2 charms on it . I know she will like it because I pick her up from school 3 times a week and she has mentioned Pandora several times . They do prefer a gift to unwrap at that age whereas older teenagers definitively prefer cash 😂

I give ideas to my DM and she buys and wraps them.
FIL, sometimes we buy and wrap them and he gives us the money, sometimes we order them to his house and he wraps them.
My grandma likes to get them a present too and I buy those and give them to her and she wraps them and gives me the money back.
