Christmas/Fairy lights with that old fashioned twinkle and glow?

I'm one of those who prefer the 'old school' indoor Christmas lights, therefore the filament/incandescent mini bulbs which look like tiny candles , each just over an inch long and maybe 3mm to 4mm in diameter. These give off a wonderful glow and often have a gentle twinkle function. I also prefer multi-coloured instead of just plain white. I'm very fussy about my lights. :-)

Trouble is that the old bulbs use a lot of energy, on the other hand LED bulbs are extremely cheap to run (just a few pence a week even at today's energy prices) BUT they are often harsh and overly bright and any 'twinkle' function is more like a maddening flashing sequence. They are also more often that not in the 'wrong' colours - they should be Red, Green, Blue and Yellow but these days they often throw in Orange, Purple, Pink and other colours.

Are there any indoor LED bulb strings which effectively mimic the soft glow of the older filament/incandescent mini lights? Either battery or mains powered? They don't need to by the mini candle shape Must be in the Red, Green, Blue and Yellow colours and also have a good twinkle function if possible.

Thanks in eager anticipation of loads of suggestions. :-)

Resurrecting the thread sorry! How did the sharpie lights turn out can anyone say?? I hate my LED lights! 😫 and the idea seems genius, just hard to tell how dim they are on the pictures. Thank you 🎄

Hi 👋 oooh they were lovely 🥰
You need a blue, green, red, orange and pink. They take forever but they lasted, I run these 2 years ago and last year they were fine. Keep the sharpies you use in your xmas box with your lights for touch ups!

@thenewaveragebear1983 oh wow! Thank you so much, I have the lights and sharpies on order. Can't wait to see the results! Honestly, I have an 8ft tree and last year the lights completely ruined it! If this works I'll be made up! Did you just do one coat? I have 600 lights to do 😬

@HereIfYouNeedMe yes just one coat, but take your time to make sure you get the whole bulb. The leds have a sort of concave end so you need to colour in the concave and also swipe round the edge or you get white patches

@thenewaveragebear1983 amazing thanks so much for the tips! I'm excited, they should arrive today and I'll let you know how they turn out 😀
