Hello!

I have DS (4) and DD (who will be 11 months) so far i have matching pjs for them. Im thinking a book each and maybe a Disney Christmas teddy? Dont want to go OTT. Any inspiration appreciated :)

OP posts:

New PJs, a Christmas activity book, new Christmas bedtime story, Christmas biscuits (DS loves the Cadbury Festive Friends) and a Christmas teddy (same one that goes in every year)

Mariposista · 18/11/2022 06:52

They will get the best gift you can give a child: family time, laughs, fun, walk with the dog, screens off, a nice meal, board games and leaving out Santas cookies before bed.

violetcuriosity · 18/11/2022 06:53

I've changed it to an advent box this year as I got annoyed with not getting good use out of the bits I buy! So now on the 1st December we put it out. Just a cardboard box with wrapping paper on with-

  • advent calendar
  • Xmas bed sheets (these aren't new but only arrive at Xmas each year)
  • 2 pairs of Xmas pyjamas
  • Gonk mug
  • hot chocolate bombs
  • hot chocolate pods
  • box of celebrations
  • nice box of biscuits
  • Christmas books, 1 new and the rest have been collected over the years
Myleakycauldron · 18/11/2022 06:54

We do very similar to everyone else.

Our box is joint for the DC and is an old hamper that otherwise stays in the loft.

It includes PJs (new), stockings (old), night before Christmas (old), and a small chocolate, a bath bomb and depending on when we get them out an activity book - depends on what we're doing that day, if it's after 5pm wouldn't bother!

My DC love the way it appears suddenly (like magic!) and the way it in presented for them to discover everything - makes new PJs so much more exciting.

New pjs would be bought around December anyway so I don't think this is excessive.

If anyone has small children who they do not want to spend Lush money on bath bombs (ie, me!) Asda and Wilkos do Christmas ones for £1!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 18/11/2022 07:02

Just stick a plate with and carrot and a whisky out, make them some hot chocolate with whipped cream. Tell them to go to bed. Drink the whisky. No need to destroy the planet with all this commercial tat.

I have a 3yo and a 5yo. We have one box, it will have some new pjs for the kids, a sweet treat, a Christmas book, we have the night before Xmas and the polar express. Also Santa's magic key, and their stocking to hang up by the tree. Very simple, just to make a bit of magic. We might need a plate for santa and the reindeer treats this year as well.

Lordofmyflies · 18/11/2022 07:07

When mine were small they used to get a special Christmas bauble on the tree on Christmas Eve. Over the years they each now have a collection which my eldest has now in his home.

🙄 lovely, so will mine. Not exactly answering OPs original question though is it?

FTM2022SS · 18/11/2022 08:12

I think I am going to do our 'Christmas Eve' Box on the 1st for our 8 month old including some first Christmas PJs to wear throughout December (he grows SO fast haha), 1st Christmas Bauble, Christmas Eve Plate, a bauble to put his handprint on (I laugh thinking how we will do this!), couple of Christmas theme books to read throughout December. Some of this can be brought out each Christmas too which I like! And eventually it will include Christmas crafts for the month, Chocolate advent calendar etc!

Also debating a Nativity advent calendar which can be reused every year too!

Last year my little one was almost 4 months and he had a Christmas patterned sleepsuit, Christmas Socks, a santa book, a reindeer rattle, a personalised bauble and a letter from santa.

This year he'll be almost 16 months and will be getting a nice soft bear sleepsuit, a little stacking toy, a little toy car, the dinosaur that pooped daddy book, a bauble and some baby snacks :)

A kid getting PJ, hot chocolate and a toothbrush is in no way 'distroying the planet' or 'tat' lol.

Peoples desperate need to clutch their pearls is utterly hillarious.

StarryKnight · 18/11/2022 14:48

I’m 42 and we had a family Christmas Eve box when I was little. I didn’t think it was a new thing?

similar to others, ours holds new pjs, hot chocolate sachets and a bag of mini marshmallows, the Christmas mugs, TTNBC, their stockings, a bath bomb (I used to get a bottle of matey!) and an activity like gingerbread house or cookie kit, or some type of craft.
basically what we would use on Christmas Eve but in storage 😀

VioletCreams · 18/11/2022 22:28

Most people reuse their contents yearly for the Christmas Eve Boxes apart from consumables. I don’t get why people talk about destroying the planet, buying commercial tat, etc whenever this subject comes up. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The CEB for our 4 year old DS has:

New Pyjamas
Santa Plate (old)
Magic Key (old)
Reindeer Food Bag (old, although the food in it is new 😊)
The Night Before Christmas Book (old)
Letter from Santa
Bath Bomb
Glow Sticks (for putting in the bath and turn lights out)
Christmas Craft/Activity
Some festive sweets/chocolate

kopiy · 18/11/2022 22:45

I give my dc new xmas pjs on the 1/12 so they have the month to wear them & get ready for xmas. We also get out all the xmas books then so they can chose what xmas story they want at bedtime. There was a great thread here about books.

Don't have dvds any more as it's all streamed & again a variety of xmas films will be watched throughout the month.

Mine get all the choc treats in their stocking so wouldn't do the night before as well.

Christmas Eve boxes is over the top ! Why ?

Christmas Eve boxes is over the top ! Why ?

Strangely enough, there are no official arbitrators on how to do Christmas correctly. So if a parent wants to make their child believe that having a bath, a hot drink and a new pair of Jim jams to wear, while laying out a mince pie, and having a story read to them, is all part of the magic of Christmas, then let them crack on. Personally, I don’t see the point of stockings. But because no saints named Nick have recently died and asked me to become Queen of Christmas, I accept that they might make other people happy and I do them for those people.

If it’s not for you and your family, then fine, but there’s not much to be cheery about at the moment, let’s not fuck about with anything that might make a little kid happy.

Yep... 😊

itsalldowntome · 19/11/2022 09:43

Mine are in the teens and I still do this. They get a new pair of pjs,a couple of cans of fizzy drink/alcohol and some chocolate or sweets. DH & I get a new pair of pjs each too so we all get changed after dinner and watch films and eat snacks. I'm hoping to keep this tradition for as long as possible. No partners on the scene yet but I'll be doing boxes for them too when there are.

Christmas Eve boxes is over the top ! Why ?

If you think a toothbrush, hot chocolate, a book, supper and PJs before bed are over the top, you must live a very dull (and neglectful) life then.

They are all ENTIRELY normal things.

RedRobyn2021 · 19/11/2022 13:42

So far all we have is PJs and a Christmas sticker book, this thread has given me some good ideas though
