Gift for a man who has helped us out

We've had a major issue this year and someone we approached for help (and was expecting to pay thousands to) has gone above and beyond, for free, to get it sorted out for us. (Because he's a good guy, it was no fault of ours, and it was an interesting case for him to dig into).

We want to get him something for Christmas as a thank you but really struggling for ideas. He's very wealthy, doesnt need anything. Doesn't drink. Has three young kids so hobbies few and far between at the moment but plays guitar. Budget around £50ish.

From what you described he sounds like a white collar professional. Maybe a nice pen, engraved with thank you. Or a nice man’s scarf, gloves, nice leather diary or notebook.

Wonder if he has an office which could give you some clues as to style or bits he might appreciate. Nice photo frame / beautiful paperweight?

Does he cook? Maybe a nice serving bowl/tableware?

I'd go for a small luxury item:

Smythson Diary www.smythson.com/uk/nile-blue-2023-panama-diary-1201303.html

Fortnum & Mason Chocolate and Cheese www.fortnumandmason.com/seasonal-events/christmas/food-and-drink

'Man' candle - Aqua de Parma maybe www.acquadiparma.com/en/gb/luce-di-colonia/HOMECANDLELUCE.html?dwvar_HOMECANDLELUCE_size=200G\

Apple Air Tag (optional fancy keyring) www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/airtag-key-ring-in-tobacco-pebble?currency=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI78Dhwt-z-wIVUwSLCh3wTALREAQYAiABEgJns_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

A nice coffee table book - maybe guitar themed www.rockandbluesmuse.com/2022/08/26/the-collection-slash-showcases-his-guitars-in-coffee-table-book/

When looking for a gift like this, I always think buy something that is expensive for what it is, but within budget iyswim. That's what make it luxurious.

A sumptuous coffee table photographic guitar history book?

My guitar-fanatic friend loved this one. Not a style-over-substance type book, as goes into detailed history/ stories behind iconic stars' individual models etc.

'Guitar: The World's Most Seductive Instrument' - David Schiller

www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/43212437-guitar
www.amazon.co.uk/Guitar-Worlds-Most-Seductive-Instrument/dp/1523507721

Format handy to dip in and out of, if your chap has a busy lifestyle.
(He sounds a kind man, btw!)
And enough of your budget left over to add something extra.

@BobDear
Ha! Good call. My aforementioned friend also rates the Slash tome highly 😊

JoydeJ · 17/11/2022 14:25

Ahh that's so sweet.
Home made food/cookies? Something personal which took time and effort might make it more sentimental?

sidsgranny · 20/11/2022 17:00

Beverly Hills Bakery do fantastic cookies/cupcake deliveries. They're based in Notting Hill and I first started using them when I worked at the BBC. They now deliver all over the country. We have a couple of friends who are very high earning and probably have loads of bottles of wine gifted at Christmas but these have been a big hit with their kids which I think is great.
