Does everyone get their kids advent calendars? We never had them as kids. Does everyone have one nowadays?

We had the picture ones in the 70’s - loved them

DH and I both had them as children, so they are definitely a thing in our house. Not the spendy ones full of tat though, just ones with nice chocolate. My kids love them and look forward to them every year. This year they have the Lindor truffle ones.

That's why I always close the doors again. Drives DH crazy but I can't stand the open flaps and empty boxes. I prefer the picture on the box.

Nooo, the empty boxes show how far you've come and only X days left till the big day! Xmas Grin

I had them as a child (I'm 40) and my kids get a chocolate one every year. Last year I got them a Playmobil one but I actually think we all prefer to keep it simple with a nice chocolate one.

Although I have an M&S one this year for the first time...

We had picture ones as children, we had to share one between the four of us so we each got to open a door every four days. We loved them though, with the anticipation of what the picture will be. I still buy a proper card advent with pictures every year and find it disappointing if the pictures are photos or not appropriate - robins, lanterns, donkeys, holly clumps, angels... all perfectly fine. Cars, phone boxes, guitars... no no no.

I like the German ones (Richard Sellmer is a good shout) and love a great amount of detail. Last year the pictures behind were sublime and I could take a photo and add a caption to it, made it even better Grin

We don't have chocolate ones as the chocolate isn't very nice, nor the calendar; we usually hide lots of Lindt teddies/Santas/elves in the tree, and have to search for one every morning. We have had the Lego one occasionally but not instead of the traditional version.

I just picked up beautiful old-style advent calendars for my kids - I love them and so do they (maybe not as much as me ;)). They also have refillable ones and get a sweet or chocolate every day.
