DD 14 has always been tricky to buy for but as she gets older it gets even harder. She isn’t into many teenager things such as clothes or music. She loves reading but having got her a kindle (fabulous present) it now means that a pile of books isn’t an option. She has a 3D printer which has been a great success but has most types of filament so hard to do that. She has a raspberry pi but never really got into it. She isn’t bothered by shows or music. She has asked for a weighted blanket (which I will get) but has lots of other cushions and blankets for her room. Got a picture instant printer thing (good mums et idea from previous years)
Any ideas would be fantastic.

Any experience/ day out/ events she'd enjoy

VR set

CriCut Joy

Zebee · 13/11/2022 20:49

Oh and if she gets money it will just go in her bank account (which obviously will one day be very useful) but it doesn’t excite her. Great to have a non-materialistic teen but hard when people want to buy her presents.

Have asked her whether there is a day out she would like and she hasn’t got an idea. already got a circuit a couple of years ago which was a good present.

Magazine/food/beauty subscriptions?

Zebee · 13/11/2022 20:53

Magazine subscription might be an idea. She likes the week junior but really a bit old for it but we haven’t found a suitable alternative.

Any ideas of magazines that might work?

Chocolate
Bath stuff
If she's got her kindle dies she have an unlimited subscription or perhaps audible subscription.

PhotoDad · 13/11/2022 20:56

I don't suppose she has a hobby which needs equipment? (My DD got into photography and presents at all price levels became easy.)

MammaWeasel · 13/11/2022 20:57

Amazon voucher for Kindle books?

we have a kindle unlimited subscription that we share.

She doesn’t like baths
I am sure she would love loads of chocolate but there is a limit

She is pretty impossible.

My 17 year old announced she wants nothing for Christmas and feels bad of I spend the money on things she won't use - evident by last summer when we moved and I found all her previous Christmas presents still in the bag she put them in after opening!
So, she is going to art school next year so I got her several books about that (history of Disney Animation etc). Some art supplies. A heated blanket. Her brother got her a really cool crocheted cropped cardigan. And I'm taking her to a cat café!

No sadly, the 3D printer has been a great hobby but doesn’t really need endless accessories.

She probably will get some vouchers always a back up, but not very exciting.

I agree with a suggestion for a day out maybe?
Train tickets, nice lunch, shopping, museum or show perhaps 🤔

I used to love a trip to London as a teen

MyBuggyIsOutToGetMe · 13/11/2022 21:03

Depending on your budget, how about Eurostar tickets or vouchers? Take her on a mini break - maybe to Belgium for chocolate?!

Cheaper and closer to home, would she like some kind of experience, like a chocolate making class or cookery class?

How lovely, I definitely think she will feel this in a couple of years. Sadly at the moment she has a younger brother who gets mountains of Lego and so she will feel a bit left out if there aren’t a few presents.

the non-junior version of The Week? Or National Geographic?

SavingKitten · 13/11/2022 21:06

Not much help really but if you want to get vouchers or days out you could always give her things to open still by putting them in novelty things like a ‘pop me’ balloon. Also maybe a nice cover for the weighted blanket? I’d buy fancy coloured pens and nice post it notes as all teens use stationary. Does she have an Alexa in her room?

NuffSaidSam · 13/11/2022 21:06

Something for her room?

Lava lamp.
Rug.
Picture/poster.
Photo frame or get a favourite photo blown up onto a canvas.
Duvet set.
Incense.

Or something like a journal, nice set of pens, maybe a bullet journal and associated paraphernalia?

beAsensible1 · 13/11/2022 21:07

Maybe an activity day out? something like robot building or similar. Maybe something you could do together.

SavingKitten · 13/11/2022 21:07

Buy a gift experience voucher? Easy for her to swap if she wants to change it.

AmethystMoonShine · 13/11/2022 21:13

Really lovely good quality PJs and slippers or slipper socks? Thick snuggly dressing gown?
Alternatively…I’ve got a sheepskin fleece hot water bottle cover which is amazing and although expensive I love it so much!

GarlicBreadItsTheFuture · 13/11/2022 21:16

Laminator with pouches was the biggest hit with my daughter at that age

Feetupteashot · 13/11/2022 21:17

Music
Cinema tickets
Shoe / jumpers / jewelry that will always fit in years to come

Just wanted to say I feel your pain. Just been my DD17 birthday and in the end I gave her just driving lessons. She asks for nothing. She has an expensive dance hobby and she knows it is expensive and that we have to buy things as and when needed so she doesn't like to ask for things. She also has a brother who just wants piles of Lego. And she loves surprises and things under tree 😥

Few ideas I have previously pinched off bargain thread: room diffuser (surprise hit, she liked the scents and the light aspects of it), good headphones and because she is planning to go to Uni and is teaching herself to cook related items - so a crepe machine was another surprise hit and has been well used. I also bought her as a joke a breakfast pan with different compartments so you could cook a breakfast for yourself in one pan! She loves it and uses it to cook other things.

I have previously also taken her away and she's really loved the 121 time. So, we did a girlie trip to Bath, posh hotel, lovely food her brother wouldn't have liked, the Spa and glass blowing.

She has for the first time EVER asked for camera lenses this year. I nearly fainted!!
