What to buy 9 year old girls for Christmas!?

It seems to get harder and harder every year to buy presents for kids where you don't feel that you've completely wasted your money on plastic crap or are turning them into screen junkies...

does anyone have any ideas for things they are buying their 9/10 year olds?

My daughter has requested a sewing kit and lots of stationary. She spends every evening in her room doing arty bits.
I've also got her swimming accessories (her main hobby)

WeAreAllSpecksOnARock · 13/11/2022 20:51

Harry Potter stuff, perfume, arts and craft things and Barbie accessories.

Calphurnia · 13/11/2022 20:58

New bedding, new swimsuit and goggles, football boots and shin pads.

Mine is 8 so a little bit younger but she is getting a programmable robot, lego and craft bits.

Tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
A water speaker
A neon writing frame
Herd immunity game
A bullet journal

mac1974 · 13/11/2022 22:26

Lego
Kinetic sand
Squishmallow
Craft kits
Stationery
Orbeez challenge

She's asked for some Playmobil but she got a load for her birthday in Oct which she has hardly touched so I'm unsure about that

SkankingWombat · 13/11/2022 22:46

My 8.5yo will be getting from us:
A bike (bought second hand)
Ministry of Magic HP Lego set
HP Lego divination classroom
Fancier alignment kickboard for swimming
Swimming rucksack
Harumika set
Biology encyclopedia
Varjak Paw 2 (book)
Murderous Maths book set
H Potter cushion
Some new colours of thread for her sewing box, plus a bundle of fabric offcuts if I can find something she'd like on Marketplace (she bought herself a sewing machine earlier this year)
Game for her Nintendo 3DS

Plus for her stocking:
Perfume miniature
H Potter socks
Playmobil blind bag
Lego blind bag
Bath bomb
Bracelet with her name on (spotted it on holiday! We never see things with her name, so she'll be thrilled!)
Lip balm
Tube of sweets
Choc coins
...and a satsuma of course!

She has asked for a variety of sparkly and smelly stationary items too, but will pass these over as ideas to the few other people who will get her a gift along with the suggestion of more fabric for sewing projects.
The bike tips it well over what we usually would spend this year, but she has now completed outgrown her old one as well as it being on its last legs. She is in desperate need of a newer and bigger pair of wheels!

SkankingWombat · 13/11/2022 22:50

Oh, in terms of other suggestions, I was going to get a Fimo set too, but then we realised she needed the bike so that idea will have to roll over to her birthday along with Snap Circuits. She would also like a Raspberry Pi, but that is also out of budget now.
