Schleich or playmobil farm?

My 4 year old son is desperate for a farm for Christmas. We have some bits of playmobil already which he plays with so I was just going to buy him a playmobil farm but then I saw some people recommending schleich instead. We don’t have any schleich but it looks more detailed although the pieces can’t move unlike the playmobil. Does anyone have any recommendations for one of the other? Thanks

We ended up with both. I think the playmobil farm had more play value, but they were both good.

I think it is always best to have lots of the same brand because then the parts are interchangeable. So if you get more playmobil, then your existing playmobil people can also ride the tractors in the new farm etc.

also, schleich is VERY expensive if you want a lot of it.

so stick to playmobil.

This! We had (have) loads of Schleich, but DD was animal mad and it gave lasting play value for much longer than might have been expected. She's now studying animal care!

I'd stick with playmobil unless you think he will appreciate the detail.

Playmobil is better in my opinion as the pieces can move.

DD has several Schleich horses and the horse stable and they are more display. than for playing.

we had playmobil between 3-8. My child now has a thing about schleich horse world.
if your child was a bit older (6+) I’d say schleich but personally I’d go for playmobil at 4

We got some schleigh animals and they were never ever played with. Sold well on eBay though!

Thanks everyone, playmobil seems to be the winner. Easier to get second hand as well and cheaper so that even better!

Playmobil definitely has more scope for play

Playmobil in my house

Another vote for Playmobil here. It's very versatile as you can mix and match the different themes. Smile

Playmobil all the way

TeenDivided · 13/11/2022 17:14

My DD loved her schleich (reminiscing). She used to put them in family groups and/or line them up. Once we had a lovely long line from her bedroom, all the way along the landing to the top of the stairs.

What a lovely memory @TeenDivided.

One complicating factor is that he is insistent that his farm will have a milking shed! I’m really struggling to find one that will fit the bill.

My two also had both and I think they're both brilliant but playmobil for that age.

The description here curiousminds.co.uk/products/playmobil-country-large-farm-with-animals (sold out) for the Playmobil Large Country Farm mentions a milking machine.

SoMuchToBits · 14/11/2022 09:00

That's the farm set I have, and it does include a mobile milking machine. The set is no longer current in the Playmobil catalogue, but I have seen it for sale on Amazon.

Here are a couple of photos of the milking machine from my 2020 dioramas.
