Going to surprise DS 10 with a gaming laptop. Need to be able to do school work on it as well. He currently uses an old standard laptop which is very laggy. We have narrowed it down to these 3 laptops. This is absolutely the max budget. Are any of these ok or can you advise better machine for the money. Thanks

Does it have to be a laptop? A pc is usually cheaper and can be upgraded rather than replaced as requirements change- DD's computer lasted from 10-20 with just a graphic card upgrade and software whereas my laptops never last more than 4 years, current one can run current games, I bought in 2018

I would honestly go PC not not laptop.

BertieBotts · 13/11/2022 07:51

Agree - you get a lot more for your money with a desktop.

Turmerictolly · 13/11/2022 08:13

Laptop is no good for gaming. Get a PC and then the parts can be upgraded.

Unfortunately he brings it to his friend's house every weekend so has to be a laptop. He has SEN so set in his ways

I would go for 16gb ram or higher.

c3pu · 13/11/2022 08:39

As gaming performance goes it'll be somewhat mediocre with 8gb RAM and an i5.
512Gb storage won't fit many recent games, new ones tend to be huge.

What games does he want to play? If his favourites are older titles it could be just fine.

www.ebuyer.com/1422807-medion-erazer-deputy-p25-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-5600h-16gb-ram-30033307 I haven't reviewed the individual coponents but as a quick search- 16gb ram, and an NVIDIA 3060 for £799 from ebuyer? I agree with a PP that 8gb is likely to be a little slower if they like AAA games. Storage can be expanded by an external hardrive if needed.

I found the same laptop as @DinosaurOfFire on Scan’s website.
www.scan.co.uk/products/156-medion-erazer-deputy-p25-fhd1920x1080-ryzen-5-5600h-16gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-6gb-geforce-rtx-3060-usb

It’s £828 there with free delivery.

but as a pp asks, it’s all about which kind of games he’ll be playing.
if it’s games like Minecraft, Football Manager, Sims you’ll be fine with your first choice but better with the Medion laptop.

He currently only plays roblox on it. Has a ps5 for main games though obviously want it to be future proof as he might want to play better games as he gets older. The main thing putting me off is the 8gb ram but think I can add to this if i have read it right

upgrading the memory, yes you will be able to given the Scan version of the laptop has 16gb.
you might be able to add another 8gb later otherwise swap the existing 8gb for a 16gb stick of memory. Which costs more.

according to the blurb on the Scan website about the graphic card’s capabilities “The RTX 3060 graphics lets you play the latest gaming titles such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Battlefield V in full HD quality with no lag or visual tearing.”

I haven’t seen Roblox but so far it sounds like this laptop is if anything overspecced for his needs!
