Can I put 2 Christmas cakes in the oven at once?

Just that really.

Just about to bake my Christmas cakes. I have 5 to bake (4 x 18cm tins and 1 x 15cm tin).

I have 2 ovens. Can I put 2 in one, and 3 in the other?

I seem to think that if you put more than one thing in a n oven, it takes longer to bake. Is this correct?

I can put them on the same shelf as the cakes are smallish. Is this an option?

It should be fine

Season0fTheWitch · 11/11/2022 17:30

I think you should research how ovens work... it'll be fine, you could put all 5 in the same oven and it would be fine

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/11/2022 17:44

Do they fit without touching and have you got enough gap at the top?
If its a fan oven then it shouldn't make much difference where you put them (ie height of shelf)

Wrap the outsides in brown paper/newspaper to protect the cakes and enjoy the gorgeous smell of Christmas Cake Xmas Grin

I ballsed up a bit. I put the 18cm soaked fruit in the 15cm dried ingredients and baked it in the 18cm cake tin.

Already off to a bad start.

I do! And even with that the list of requests grows… one year my Sister asked me to make one for her birthday too (they’re much better home made!). I’ve been. Doubling up for about 10 years now 😀

Dippydonky · 11/11/2022 19:12

Just feed it with plenty of booze and it’ll work out fine hehe!

SalviaOfficinalis · 11/11/2022 19:14

Don’t worry! It’ll turn out fine I’m sure.
I am curious about why you’re making 5 Christmas cakes though?

SwedishEdith · 11/11/2022 19:39

Are Christmas cake recipes much of a muchness? I fancy just making a small one this year.

CoffeeMad18 · 12/11/2022 07:36

If you are making for your family members you can easily make a number of cakes.
I have two left to bake, of a total of six.
My MIL, 2xSIL, my mum, my sister and one for us. Do this every year.
If I could fit all 6 in my oven - I definitely would!

LumpOfCoalAndASatsuma · 12/11/2022 09:22

1 for me, DB, dad, mil, a friend and one spare due to leftover fruit.

Ooop, can't count. There isn't a spare one.

I have 2 in the oven right now!! They smell amazing.

PeeJayDay · 12/11/2022 12:20

2 going in this afternoon. Usually do them alone but the cost of energy crisis has got me thinking

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 12/11/2022 13:13

Ahhh bless you @LumpOfCoalAndASatsuma you seem a bit like I am when I am stressed/distracted! 🎄😊

I hope they all turn out beautifully! You may need to take out the one that went in the wrong tin a little earlier.

If any of them don’t quite turn out you can just eat them now with ice cream!

You can cook as many as you can comfortably fit with some room for the heat to circulate/get in between each tin.

LumpOfCoalAndASatsuma · 12/11/2022 13:43

I've got my last 3 in now. I did 2 yesterday. They are small as I used the 15cm ingredients but they smell and look lovely.

They’ll be fine just don’t do what I did! I did two in the oven but put them in at different times and took them out at the same time. Not sure if the 2nd one will be okay, it was only in for 1hr 45, should I chuck it? Here’s a pic for reference

Oh hadn’t noticed that the thread was posted yesterday! I love the smell of Christmas cake cooking, even if I’m not that keen on actually eating it...

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 12/11/2022 14:01

Please would you post the recipe you’re using? We’d decided against making Christmas cake this year but I think I might still want to make some little ones...

LumpOfCoalAndASatsuma · 12/11/2022 14:27

I got the recipe for smaller ones on here.

Thank you! I have to say that your thread cheered me up - I’m glad I’m not the only one who sometimes gets different batches of ingredients mixed up or accidentally uses the wrong tin or can’t count reliably (all of which I’ve done at some point or another!). 🙂

LumpOfCoalAndASatsuma · 12/11/2022 14:51

Anytime 😂
