I am considering getting DD (20) one as she likes scented candles but is picky on the scents. I would prefer to buy through Etsy or a small business but I don’t want to pay a fortune. Trouble is I don’t know what is a realistic budget.

Is it better to get an electric one? Is this necessary to get a good amount of scent?

Could also use recommendations on melts, traditional scents; lavender, patchouli, amber etc but we are vegan and some melts aren’t.

I've got an electric one and I love it but then again I'm scared of candles since a friend's house caught fire.

It was bought for me as a present along with loads of wax melts, so I'm afraid I can't comment on the price but I do know my friend buys them from local FB pages.

I would highly recommend Devon Wick devonwick.com/ a real variety of scents and great company service. Their snap bars are usually 5 for £10 so very good value and the scent fills the house

They also sell burners but I would say that it is better value to but those from a shop like home bargains, B&M or one of the supermarkets

I always buy these:

www.callancandles.com/

They are lovely and natural from a small home business in Scotland. You can get a variety pack to start with. I've got an electric and a tealight burning container and find the tealight one gives out the best scent.

I've tried loads of different brands and I think these are the best.

They are vegan as well - soy wax.

I've been buying from here for years and years

Select the scent on drop down and click the "i" button for a scent description
There's a bag of newness which is all sample scents. Vegan, and work with electric or tealights burners and super strong

Here is a local company I would recommend.

Wasson Wax

Cosy Aromas are THE best for long lasting scents. I have tried them all and keep going back to Cosy.

You'll find someone local probably sells Scentsy if you look on Facebook. A large choice of warmers (which are safer than candles as use a light bulb rather than naked flame) and the wax is made from paraffin.

This is my favourite from Etsy. Her wax melts have a great scent throw.

The melts are soy wax, which are clean burning.
