What do you usually put in your kids stockings?

Growing up DS19 would have a fair amount in there iof small things like

  • 12ish packs of sweets, like Tubes of rolos, smarties, irn bru chew bars, poppets, fudge Bar, mars bar etc. Naturally these were breakfast ha ha
  • 5-8 little toys like YoYo, foam plane, metal car, fidget toys, noise machine, slap band, keyrings, Lego blind bag etc
  • toothpaste (he loves the Theramed one 😂) and new toothbrush would be a novelty one.
  • a pair of socks
  • a satsuma
  • lottery scratch card

Never anything expensive and/or big, like DVDs or computer games or books etc that I know his pals would get.

His stocking is a "normal" sized one, like a big long sock as pictured. (As I know some people have pillowcases/sacks, so just a bit of context as to one reason why big items wouldn't be in there)

What do you usually put in your kids stockings?

I run to a bit of a formula:

orange in the toe
chocolate coins
fancy stationery
new slipper socks/fluffy socks
paperback book
tube of sweets
Small Lego set
3-4 smallish things

elQuintoConyo · 04/11/2022 21:11

Small Lego set to make over breakfast (last year was a dog chasing a frisbee).

Fidget toy, or something like a finger skateboard.

Some choc/sweets.

Magazine rolled up.

Something with his name on, like a pen or book.

Never socks, undies or a toothbrush.

Chaiandchocolate · 04/11/2022 21:12

The ideas I have for DS(7) are as follows (not bought anything yet except books so it may vary):

Lego Minifigure bag
Small Lego set
Bath bombs
Books
A small toy like a Transformers figure
Small game like Top Trumps cards
Either a Lindt choc reindeer or large tube of Smarties

When people say they put in underwear, socks, toothbrushes/paste and soap - is this novelty stuff or everyday items?

pumpkinelvis · 04/11/2022 21:15

Bath bombs
Sweets
Socks
Fidget toy
Bubble bath
Pants

Basically anything small enough that I can't be arsed wrapping!

psuedocream3 · 04/11/2022 21:19

Same as you op minus the sensible things, just tweaked to their individual interests. Mine wouldn't enjoy pulling out toothpaste or underwear, but that's probably just my kids rather than anything else!

Tigertigertigertiger · 04/11/2022 21:19

Their legs

BettyOBarley · 04/11/2022 21:24

Always chocolate coins!
Character pants or socks
Tube smarties
Fidget toys
Magic flannels
Stationery / bookmark
Lego figures / Mashums
Lip balms / nail varnishes / hair clips

And I always wrap everything! Gives me more time to wake up while they open them on our bed at 5am!

Yep I did the same things. Novelty stuff he could play with whilst waiting for everyone else to get up.
He did quite like an expanding flannel one year but practical stuff like socks was wrapped under the tree so it would be fun present, useful present, requested present, repeat ( depending on budget).

megletthesecond · 04/11/2022 21:29

New socks
Funky pens
Xmassy shower gel
Chocolate coins
Something to make
Small book

Nothing wrapped up.

I would put Theramed toothpaste in, because he bloody loves the stuff and liked the bottle etc and it just became habit... The toothbrush was always a novelty one.

I have no idea why he's so strange and really likes that particular toothpaste 🤣

Socks would be a character pair of whatever he was into, so bin the builder, star ears, Ninjago etc.

Chocolate coins, other sweets, something novelty like a bouncy ball or light up pen, £5 voucher for greggs went down well last year.

MakeWayMoana · 04/11/2022 21:44

Same size stocking as you, we tend to just put whatever fits in. We do make sure each kid has an equivalent of each thing, so they’ll all have pants, if one has a book that fits they all get a book.

Last year we had chocolate coins, tube of chocolate, fidget toy each, top trumps each, bath bombs, seed bombs, lip balm, pants, socks and a book - there might’ve been a couple of other bits. It’s all wrapped individually too, whole point of the stocking is to give them some boring bits to open while I sort of wake up!

00100001 · 04/11/2022 21:58

Oh, and I wrapped everything!

Gabe him something to do instead of dump it out in the bed ha ha

Same size stockings here. I sometimes do theme stockings for ds8, & dd7. Last year was a police themed for him with horse for Dd. This year DD’s is cat themed:
cat tails books mark
cat book
cats cradle game
cat pens
cat note pad
small cat schleich figure
cat colouring book
cat top trumps.

They all get some chocolate or sweets
stationary
game like snap/top trumps
sticker/colouring book
soft toy
key ring
animal or figure for Lego or playmobil
Hair bobbles/slides
yoyo/skipping rope
i try and put in a mix of stuff and avoid the plastic party bag type stuff. It’s tailored to them their likes/wants & interests. Dd5 is getting some wrist guards for gymnastics along with Dalmatian dog themed stocking. 101 Dalmatian pez dispenser, mini soft toy, branded stationary, hair bobbles.

i don’t wrap any of it.

I love doing stockings as they are always the bits still being used later.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 04/11/2022 23:21

I usually get put the smaller things they’ve asked for in stockings, it saves on buying tat they don’t need or want. Also chocs and bath bombs. They have rather large stocking so can fit quite a bit in.

moggerhanger · 04/11/2022 23:28

We have similar sized stockings. My DC get:

Bath fizzy
Choc coins
Choc reindeer
Paperback book
Some sort of small toy (eg Stikbot, Top Trumps)
Something useful (eg carabiner, key fob compass)
Blanket badge (we're Scouts!)
Other inexpensive bits and bobs that I might happen across. 12 hour military grade glowsticks were a hit last year.

DramaGiraffe · 04/11/2022 23:39

Chocolates/ sweets
A satsuma
Small lego kit
A game
A soft toy
A craft thing of some description
A book
Christmas hats/ snapbands
A couple of things from their request list to Father Christmas

Itaintwhatyoudoitsthewaythatyoudoit · 04/11/2022 23:40

Chocolates, sweets and novelty stuff from Flying Tiger including pens/pencils they can later use in school.

Last year I bought a lot of Harry Potter themed gifts.

The stockings are a bigger hit than the main gifts under the tree much to my dismay! I think they like getting surprise gifts more and I enjoy buying them (not least because they are inexpensive!).

DramaGiraffe · 04/11/2022 23:41

Always wrapped! The unwrapping is most of the fun of it.

Dinoteeth · 05/11/2022 07:24

I normally do,

Chocolate oranges / coins
Character pants / socks to help fill the stocking.
Bath bomb
Small novelty toy
Lego comic went down a treat last year

CoffeeChocolateWine · 05/11/2022 08:28

Same size stockings here too - 10-12 gifts each. I have a loose formula that I follow. Usually it will be something along the lines of...
Bath bomb in the toe
Chocolate - either coin or choc orange
Sweets - bag of their favs
Book - usually Christmas themed if I can
Card game or puzzle - sometimes both
Something to wear - usually novelty socks/hat/gloves/scarf
A few little gifts - I try to make these either useful or something that can be used up - so something hobby-related, stationary, art supplies, flannel, bubble bath, hair gel etc
1 or 2 fun novelty gifts/cuddly toy - these are loved but I limit them to minimise tat!
I'm not one for putting essential things like pants, socks (unless novelty!), toothbrushes and toothpaste in stockings.

RobinRobinMouse · 05/11/2022 08:43

Purs is slightly bigger and is small sack shape, I would say 3/4 size of a pillowcase. This year well be putting in:

Chocolate Teddy bears
Bath bomb
Unicorn hair slides
Book
Small activity book with mini figures
Rainbow socks
Mini dog in tin (the ones from service station £1 machines)
Small stacking game
Pretend snow
Keyring for her book bag
Cuddly toy

Inasec24 · 05/11/2022 09:35

DD6 and DS4

Both:
Bath bomb
Bamboo toothbrush
Colouring pens
Chocolate coins
Sweetie tube
Slippers
Slipper socks
Satsuma
Small orchard games game or card game
Magic trick or prank like whoopee cushion

DD6:
Box of jokes
Necklace
Hair clips
Lip balm
EarringS

DS4:
Squidgy hulk toy
Little box of Bluey books
Little Robin toy
Toy snake

Titsflyingsouth · 05/11/2022 09:47

I always lead with mini tub of Pringles, Choc Orange and a can of fizzy drink (I like to go to the American Sweet shops and buy a random can DS doesn't normally get.)

This year so far DS also has:
Fidget toy
Novelty post-it notes
Christmas socks
Bath bomb

Probably have space for about another 2 or 3 small gifts. Was going to add cookie cutters, small puzzle book and some highlighter pens.

mam0918 · 05/11/2022 11:03

The toy items change year by year but I always include:

  • stickers (always)
  • chocolate coins (obvious must have, its the basis of the tradition)
  • panda biscuits (cheap and bulk out nicely)
  • chocolare orange (one year tried a toffee apple, never doing that again as kids left it in the toe and it went off)
  • a game for them to play together

They then get a few sweets they like and about 5 small things each. Ours are standard stocking in memory of St. Nick, we do 'Santa sacks' seperately and sack contains 12 classic toys (skipping rope, yo-yo, ball, recorder etc...).

It does amaze me that some people spend so much on stockings (seen people say the spend £100, I spend under £10 lol) or that some wrap everything or that some sneak into bedrooms or some use pillow cases or that some put pants/toothbrush/socks/breakfast in... its also so different person to person.
