Coffee machine for my mum?

Coffeesnob11 · 04/11/2022 10:26

My mum is 78 and is quite tricky to buy for. She goes and gets a Costa (from the machine in the petrol station not the actual coffee shop) twice a day. I think they taste like dishwater but she likes them. I am considering heating her a coffee machine for Christmas to save her the money. Which one would you recommend? I don't think she would use a bran to cup one so probably one woth pods or something that she could buy at the supermarket.

How about getting her a Costa gift card, voucher or whatever?

You can buy Costa coffee pods in supermarkets. Or it might be Starbucks. May be check and see what's compatible if Costa ones are available.

If it's the Costa ones she loves, I think they have a partnership with Tassimo (just googled and it is them!). There's absolutely loads of different Costa pods to choose from so that could be a good choice.

I think this is a good idea - I wonder if she goes for something to do and some interaction as opposed to just the coffee?

I would say that if it was the Costa but she uses the self serve machine in a petrol station!

Brilliant thank you

They also do Dolce gusto. I prefer Dolce gusto to Tassimo

I bought my elderly dad a dolce gusto coffee machine three years ago for Christmas. He’s still saying it was the best present he’s received. Easy to use and the pods can be bought in all supermarkets

We have a tassimo and often buy the Costa pods, I prefer the kenco or L'or personally, they are often on offer in supermarkets or buy in bulk off amazon.

It's a good easy machine to use.

Dp prefers his bean to cup machine but I prefer the tassimo.

With the Dolce gusto you can get an adapter from Amazon so you can use Nespresso pods as well.
Nespresso is better for black coffee, but if you like cappuccinos or lattes Dolce Gusto is better. The adaptor give s the best of both worlds
I really don't like Costa coffee so I haven't tried theirs pods

I've got a sage creatista. It makes a lovely latte. And has saved me a fortune on my Costa habit.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2022 14:07

It takes Nespresso pods. And has a steam wand.

Thanks for the tip I didn’t know you could buy an adapter. I’m going to buy him one as part of his Christmas present.

just make sure you get the right one for your model
You can also get them on ebay so worth shopping around.

We also subscribe to
for nespresso capsules

and these are useful for recyling

I have a Dolce gusto machine that my DH bought me 18 months ago & I use it everyday, my parents have a Tassimo but I think the Dolce gusto drinks are nicer (even if they are both Costa pods for eg)
You can usually get a machine and several boxes of pods for about £50 directly from the Dolce gusto website

Sleepyteach · 05/11/2022 07:16

Dolce Gousto do Costa pods and usually have some really good Black Friday deals, I got my mum a machine last year, I think I paid about £60 and got maybe 8 boxes of pods with it.
