Plain tea advent calendar anywhere?

JustEatTheCake · 15/10/2022 21:22

I know I am fussy but does anyone do just plain black teas such as English breakfast, assam, darjeeling etc. Everything seems to have added flavours such as gingerbread or peppermint teas. I don't want fruit or spiced tea, just good old black tea blends in an advent calendar.

Any suggestions?

The Fortnum and Mason one looks incredible. Proper teas in that one but it’ll cost you!

JustEatTheCake · 15/10/2022 21:47

@Brogues goodness, I think I may have passed out at reading that price. For £155 I could buy full sized packs of tea. That is just a wee tad out of my price range. Do I love tea? Yes, but do I love it that much? No.

JustEatTheCake · 15/10/2022 22:14

@NewBootsAndRanty that one looks lovely but is the same tea blend every day unless you choose the variety pack which sadly includes the fruit teas.

Theres a lovely little tea shop in Shambles York that are selling a tea advent for about £25.

not that helpful if you’re not close by - sorry 🤪

Is it Hebden tea? My dd loves that shop

Whycantibetangy · 15/10/2022 22:48

No its a real olde worlde tea shop with ceramic jugs and lace tablecloths. Feels like visiting your nans ☺️

hebden is the trendy one with glass teapots and weird flavours?

JustEatTheCake · 16/10/2022 10:44

@Whycantibetangy I do live in God's own Country so York is relatively close for a day trip so not out of the question. Love a tea shop. I like old fashioned ones with mismatching tea cups.

What's it called? Sounds really cute!!

Beautifulsunflowers · 16/10/2022 14:20

Is this for yourself or a gift? Could you treat yourself or recipient to a few lovely boxes of tea instead of just 24? Then you can continue through the winter drinking nice tea!!! For the price of an overly expensive advent calendar you could add a few packets of biscuits too 🍪☕

Sisisimone · 16/10/2022 14:52

Wish I hadn't looked at this thread. Now I really, really want a F&M tea advent. The tea chest is lovely 😍

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2022 15:17

Does any tea specialist have 25 different black teas?

JustEatTheCake · 16/10/2022 17:26

@ErrolTheDragon I don't know, I was willing to find out. Grin
@Sisisimone I apologise for it, I know I keep thinking about it but there is no way on earth I am spending that amount of money on tea.

@Beautifulsunflowers it is for me. I just fancied a lovely cup of tea, different ones in an advent calendar. I have ordered sample sized packs of loose tea before (happy to have it in a tea bag, would still use my Suki teapot) and they came in little clear bags. They tasted amazing. Some of the teas are very pretty like Cinderella which has little snowflake sugar edibles in it. They were from here, again another Yorkshire company, for those not from these parts the river Aire runs though Yorkshire. I do love a pun company name.

I can see myself making little packages of tea in a reusable advent calendar.

I've not found one. I would love one too. I'll probably end up with Twinings individual bags, which are about 25p each.
I like some fruit/herbal teas but every advent calendar I've found has a load in that I don't like.

BloodyMabel · 16/10/2022 23:15

Maybe this one if you don’t mind loose leaf?

That looks lovely. Thanks for posting, think I'll get that for myself

This seems to be configured as a sort of 'advent calendar' but doesn't look like an inspired selection - not even fairly 'normal' black teas like Darjeeling and Ceylon. Confused

@BloodyMabel that looks really good, thank you. I have never tried white tea before, bit out of my comfort zone but am willing to try. Happy to have loose tea, I have a beautiful Suki tea pot on a special tray, with sugar cubes, sugar tongs, a little timer and a pretty caddy for the tea. I like to treat it like a ceremony, no rushing. Sometimes it is nice to slow down for part of the day. Same with applying moisturiser/face products, instead of just slapping it on, you are meant to slowly massage your face, take time. I like self care Grin

@ErrolTheDragon it seems slap dash at best that Twinings one.

Hopefully there will be some more suggestions from others so we can all buy something we would like.

You’re welcome @JustEatTheCake and @Sisisimone is it sad that I actually don’t drink tea, I just like finding tricky things for people?!

Enjoy your teas ☺️
