Christmas mugs

I know this is frivolous but my Grandad used to have 2 Christmas mugs. I don't remember a lot of the detail but were hand painted with holly and robins...I'd love some vintage Christmassy mugs.

Can anyone recommend any? These are my favourites so far!

You're a Christmas genius! @Justhereforthechristmasthreads They are so perfect.

Thank you :)

thefiddlerselbow · 14/10/2022 21:26

They had some nice initial ones in Home Bargains. Also worth a look in Homesense

PhilistineWazzock · 14/10/2022 21:32

I was in asda today and they had mugs to match these plates but I can't see them online.

ImissyouBR1 · 14/10/2022 21:38

Those ASDA ones are lovely.

Often see Christmas mugs/ plates in charity shops. Think they come out of elderly people's houses as they are cleared out. Have helped to Lear a few and there is always Christmas mugs and other dishes.

ImissyouBR1 · 14/10/2022 22:10

Thanks June I hadn't thought of this. So I might have a look around the charity shops and ask what they have.

What is it about vintage christmassy things that make me feel warm and fuzzy? 😍 DH said he feels the same but his grandparents never had anything like that so it's not necessarily a childhood reminder

PhilistineWazzock I ordered those plates from the Asda website a couple of days ago. Just off to check I’d they’re still there.

BaconAndAvocado · 15/10/2022 09:03

Yep! Still there. Choose Christmas from the top, then Home. 👍🏻

FistFullOfRegrets · 15/10/2022 09:07

@ImissyouBR1

youll definite find them in Charity Shops, but possibly not too much choice for a few weeks yet until people start getting their Christmas stuff out if the loft.

it would be cheaper & nicer to rehome some which will otherwise end up in landfill, especially when you want older style mugs.

ImissyouBR1 · 15/10/2022 09:14

@FistFullOfRegrets I definitely will.

I don't often buy new but when I buy Christmas themed things, I buy it to last my life and hopefully pass down to the children.

My other grandparents had M&S mugs since the 70s, I have them now. Even the sound of the cup on the saucer brings back memories of tea with my Gran. 😍

That single memory and feeling in my heart is absolutely priceless!

Tesco and Sainsburys usually have a range of tasteful Christmas mugs.

BaconAndAvocado · 15/10/2022 09:19

I have many Christmas mugs. My favourite is my Emma Bridgewater Christmas robin mug, beautiful.
I do like the look of those B and M ones too!

Bearsporridge · 15/10/2022 09:23

I have random mismatched Christmas mugs from charity shops. Well worth a look.

I loved your comment about the sound of a cup and saucer@ImissyouBR1 I could almost smell my granny’s perfume there for a moment.

FistFullOfRegrets · 15/10/2022 10:15

@ImissyouBR1

obviously buy new if you want to! No judgement at all! (I very rarely buy much second hand. I don't buy much 'stuff' anyway and I know exactly what I want when I do. Size/colour/shape but I do buy jigsaw puzzles & books sometimes. My Christmas Tree was £1.50 in a Charity Shop 12 years ago! & I have a few decorations that were in the Charity Shop by the church on Christmas Eve one year with a sign to say they needed homes before they became landfill and I couldn't leave them there with only 10 minutes until closing!!

I just thought you might find some older, more classic designs that way.

Enjoy your new mugs! I like getting my Robin one out each year,but it's quite small.. There are so many I like, I love the Wrendale ones. I might get one for Coffee (I like separate tea/coffee mugs).

ImissyouBR1 · 15/10/2022 10:26

Oh my gosh, I wish I never googled Wrendale! 😍

That Holly B&M mug is lovely..... I think I'm going to have to visit my local store 🤭

I'm always on the lookout for Christmas mugs, bowls and plates as I'm a bit mental and have started building up a collection. They live in a large box in the loft then in December I bring them down, swap them with all of my normal mugs and crockery and put my normal stuff up in the loft to come back down again in January and swap back round. It means the Christmas mugs don't clutter up the mug cupboard all year and I get very excited when I bring them all out.

I need to get a life 😂
