DD is 11, first year of Secondary. Has no interest in games, make up etc

She doesn't play with toys, beyond Kego and board games. Which we have loads

She likes painting, but has what she needs.

I have no idea of things for grandparents etc to get and they keep asking! All shes asked for is a Harry Potter oversized hoody.

What do people get them at this age?!?

Experiences.

Sortingfinances2 · 12/10/2022 19:48

Following for inspiration!

Recent birthday hits were....
Pyjamas with pockets (!)
Fake oodie
Bluetooth speaker
Box set of books
Dvds
Rollerblades
Hoody
Baking book

Sounds so boring but all loved!

emmathedilemma · 12/10/2022 19:56

Any hobbies or clubs she might need things for? I bought the goddaughter a buoyancy aid last year as she’d been saving up for a paddle board!
clothes or shop vouchers
Bluetooth speaker
gift cards - my friends kids seem be discovering places like Costa coffee and going to the cinema on their own from secondary school age
magazine subscription
books
or just money for the bank account!

Purplehonesty2 · 12/10/2022 19:56

All I've thought of for dd is

Friends pjs - she loves friends
Stuff for her pony
Jeans (she asked for these)

I have NO idea what to get her as a main present. She has asked for a quad but we already have two and I don't think she needs her own one really.

She likes having her nails done by me, so a voucher for a salon probably. As a very one off. In fact I could get her a cut and blow dry, nails and mini make up package followed by dinner and mocktails. She would think that's very cool. (I hope)

*Bliss sky light projector

*Purse with gift cards (cinema, favourite food shops etc)
*Ikea desk & chair and skadis pegboard
*fitbit or other junior smart watch

  • cooking bits (eg donut maker)

DD1 is almost 11, for her birthday she's getting:

Origami kit
Elmers slime kit
Phone case
Roblox voucher
Roblox annual
Earrings
Nike hoody
Fidget pen
Polymer clay
Art book

PuttingDownRoots · 12/10/2022 20:02

Thanks for ideas... its similar to what we bought her last Christmas/birthday! She's really lucky, one set of grandparents have bought her and her sister a paddleboard to share, and I've suggested a wetsuit. (We already have the safety gear from canoeing). I've suggested stuff like a lava lamp or light projector for her room.

Books... she loves them but is a pain to buy for. She's getting a voucher to chose her own.

She really enjoyed her snowboarding lesson for her birthday and loves the local outdoor activity centre (which does day passes for £17 for any activity open that day.)

If she likes Harry Potter and reading, Dunelm have Harry Potter cuddle cushions with house symbol on, great for reading in bed and would be nice with a book gift voucher attached. DN is 12 and she has a kindle paperwhite (I think it's the kids version) and loves it.

reluctantbrit · 12/10/2022 20:55

Experiences
Tickets for a show, maybe with a stay at a hotel with you
Kindle paperwhite
Bluetooth speaker
audiobooks
Baking box subscription
Mug cake baking book
Hot chocolate fondue set
Pillow, blanket for her bed

My daughter is the same age, isn't into toys or makeup

Just some ideas, how about.......

Electric scooter
Head phones
Converse trainers
Roller blades
Toiletries - bath bombs etc
Oodie
Hot water bottle
Sports watch
Art supplies - I've got my DD watercolour pens

mamabluestar · 13/10/2022 09:46

Trip to Harry Potter Studio

mamabluestar · 13/10/2022 09:52

If she has a phone my daughter (now 14) got a selection of different phone cases, a popsocket slide and some tops. She's enjoyed mixing and matching them throughout the year (I remember having a watch with changeable straps at that age and I loved doing the same)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 13/10/2022 10:52

My DD is 10 - she still loves cuddly toys but doesn't play with other toys much anymore, aside from Lego sometimes. Things she's asked for, ideas I've thought of or things she loved for her birthday include...
Games (Kids against maturity and Confident?)
3D pen
Sewing machine and bits to go with
Sewing lessons
Polaroid camera and accessories
Animal adoption
Bakedin subscription
Ice cream maker
Oodie (Dunelm one is quite cheap and beautifully soft!)
Fluffy blanket
Decorative cushion
Clothes (a fluffy coat and denim jacket have both been hits)
Ice skates
Proper microphone
Nice piece of jewellery
Ear piercing (not yet...thinking next birthday!)
Baking apron (found a gorgeous personalised one on Etsy)
Posca pens and blanks to design
Art supplies
Lego dots
Stuff from Lush
Books

CoffeeChocolateWine · 13/10/2022 10:53

Echo dot
Knitting kit
Candle making set

MoggyMittens23 · 13/10/2022 11:28

A watch
a camera
harry potter baking book if she is into baking
marshmallow toasting set
fluffy socks (who doesn't love a pair of cosy fluffy socks?!)
a game like flipside
watercolour pencils and paper if she's into that
ice skating lessons (if there's anywhere near you that does that)

InvincibleInvisibility · 13/10/2022 19:56

My dS is 11 and I have the same problem. And unfortunately a lot of the suggestions are either things he has (and dont need replacing or upgrading) or wouldn't want.

I have just bought a cool skull stress ball thing for his stocking though which he should like.

InvincibleInvisibility · 13/10/2022 19:57

He got a kindle for his birthday which was a huge hit. Being able to buy a book at any time and instantly having it available is brilliant for him

Orla32 · 13/10/2022 20:28

DD similar age also...

This is our list so far:

  • Polaroid camera
  • karaoke machine
  • the fairy lights which you can hang pictures on (will sneak her phone and print off pics of her and her mates to hang)
  • horse riding lessons
  • skin care bits
  • accessories for her bedroom
PuttingDownRoots · 13/10/2022 21:50

Thanks for ideas! A few shes got already but some others are worth considering

Baaaaaa · 13/10/2022 21:58

Hmm. Lots of good suggestions already but :

Blissy/silk pillow case?

Tickets to cursed child?
Drawing tablet? Wakon or similar
Silk butterfly hair things from etsy
Kindle.

Room mood things - fairy lights/ cushions
Magazine subscription
Jewelry making kit

GettingStuffed · 13/10/2022 22:19

Someone above suggested an electric scooter. Just be aware you need private land as they aren't legal on the roads.
