Yesterday afternoon I watched The Holiday with Kate Winslet (I haven't see it for ages) and it was nice to watch holiday movie under the blanket. But I do not want to start early, so give me your ideas for almost, but not holiday movies like Harry Potter, Groundhog Day, All That Heaven Allows, Sleapless in Seattle...

I hope I explained my self.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Thanksgiving rather than Christmas but always feels quite Christmassy to me.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/10/2022 11:05

The Long Kiss Goodnight. Narnia.

Todaynotalways · 09/10/2022 11:06

The Nightmare Before Christmas is always a good Halloween/Christmas movie.

PeaceLily2000 · 09/10/2022 11:14

You've got Mail is set in autumn. I always watch it at Christmas though.
Also Beaches has some cute Christmassy scenes but isn't a Christmas film xx

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/10/2022 11:31

The Family Man has parts set at Christmas, but isn't a full-blown Christmas movie.

loverofpants · 09/10/2022 11:33

While you were sleeping

Devo1818 · 09/10/2022 12:35

Love Actually and Bridget Jones Diary

Ambertonix · 09/10/2022 14:43

Serendipity, my absolute favourite Christmassy film.

ParentallyUnprepared · 09/10/2022 15:50

Holidate on Netflix. It starts at Christmas but it's set throughout the year.

RebeccaNoodles · 09/10/2022 15:54

When Harry Met Sally. Autumnal but not too festive.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 09/10/2022 17:54

Surely you could just watch every hallmark film ever made on Channel 5. That will see you from Mid October till at least February half term 😆

scrivette · 09/10/2022 17:55

Was also going to suggest Serendipity, a bit Christmassy without being Christmas.

FallHappy1 · 09/10/2022 22:31

I watch the hallmark christmas movies when I want a bit of christmas, I find a lot of them aren't overly festive, but they are a tad cheesy!

forevercooking · 15/10/2022 20:30

Is Harry Potter a Christmas film?

wonderingwhatsnext · 16/10/2022 06:51

Great thread op. I agree it's too early for actually Christmas movies, so I'm watching with interest.

Have you seen "Lost Christmas" it's from 2011 , Eddie Izzard is the main character

It's set on Christmas Eve but it isn't all glow-ey and spark-ley though it does wrap up nicely .

Not to be confused with "Last Christmas" from 2019 which is an utter Christmas Film and though it was slated , its a CCF of the highest order .

Both are on our : Must Watch List each year Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/10/2022 09:49

CCF = Cheesey Christmas Film (not Complete Cheeky Fecker) Xmas Wink

lovescats3 · 12/10/2023 18:07

Serendipity is great

Andontothenextproblem · 12/10/2023 20:37

We have Christmas film tiers…

For example Home Alone, It’s a Wonderful Life and Elf are definitely the 12th of December and after and everyone in this house would look at you like you had a two heads if you suggested otherwise…

We generally start in late October early November with the likes of Narnia, Hook and the Nightmare before Christmas.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/10/2023 20:38

Trading Places and Ghostbusters always seem christmassy to me.
