Every year I host a games night for a group of 4-5 families. All our kids are grown up now (ages 18-25) and the adults take part as well. We like to do things a bit differently and I'm looking for new ideas for this year.

To give you an idea, last year we had an aeroplane contest using the foam aeroplanes you get for party bags and we also did play your cards right using a pack of A4 sized cards.

I buy/collect small prizes and wrap them which makes the challenges more interesting.

So do you do this kind of thing and what great ideas do you have?

Friends do balloon races with their adult kids plus spouses, or kind of "its a knock out" style challenges.
Could you do spaghetti and marshmallow structure challenge? in teams. r build an igloo with ice cubes for a more festive version.
Or get a flip chart pad and stand and do "pictionary" big style a la 'Win, Lose or Draw' (showing my age here)
Or dirty word scrabble...or festive word scrabble

Tombola.

Everyone brings a few pre wrapped presents.

The ‘minute to win it’ games would work well, lots on Pinterest including Christmas themed

We have racing Santa's....
You can buy lite wind up toys.

We just race but sure you could organise a leader board etc

Wrap a present in lots of layers, pass the parcel style. Pass round a dice - if you roll a six you get to start unwrapping the present, but you have to wear oven gloves. You keep going until the next person rolls a six etc.

Check out a game called “don’t get got”. Could work in the background while you do other things.

We play a game I first saw on here a few years ago. It's great for all ages so everyone can join in.
Wrap lots of gifts individually and place in a sack or box. Some should be practical but boring, some tacky and some nice that people may actually want to win.
I usually trawl Poundland, B&M etc for very cheap items.
You each take it in turns to roll a dice.
If you roll a six you get to pick a present to unwrap, and you must unwrap it immediately before the next person rolls.
If you roll a one you must steal a present from someone else that they have unwrapped.
We usually end up with one or two items that everyone wants so they get passed around all the time.
When the last present is unwrapped everyone keeps what they're left with at that point.

And I second the sock game. I bought this last year and it was a great hit.

Some sort of music quiz maybe ? Lots of apps that have music intros etc

BeyondMyWits · 06/10/2022 17:59

Just don't do what my dad did when he did a game of bingo... (you had to drink every time you ticked a number) photocopied the sun bingo card and wondered why everyone shouted house , drunkenly, at the same time.

My BIL always hosts really good quizzes. We all look forward to them at Christmas time!
