Oh gosh who knows. I was just talking about this. My 10 year old loves Lego but has loads from his birthday we haven’t done yet. He’s not got into gaming or anything so that is out. The list I’ve thought of includes camping stuff for scouts, books, theatre tickets, board games, a kindle… he likes bath bombs and things so a stocking is easy.

so following this for other inspo.

PurpleWisteria1 · 03/10/2022 23:35

I buying mine a virtual reality headset. It’s literally all they want. Been holding off but they have tried others and love it. I have 4 kids so they will all share and also use when friends come over.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 03/10/2022 23:50

I posted a very similar thread just the other day about my 10yo DD. For some reason I find her more difficult to buy for than my 14yo DS and 4yo DD. Or maybe it's the age I find difficult.

So far I've bought her posca pens plus things to design, Lego dots photo frame set and a game she asked for. I know she wants a baking apron too, bits from Lush and books.

Other ideas for a 'main' present were a sewing machine, camera, drawing tablet or Bakedin subscription but I'm not quite sold on them yet.

Previous hits have been roller blades, ice cream maker, proper microphone (she loves singing), animal adoption, echo dot, fake oodie, cosy blanket.

I’m also struggling for my ds. He has loads already. Doesn’t like Lego, doesn’t play with toys anymore. Doesn’t like crafting etc. He had a new bike this year, has a switch, Xbox, tablet, his room doesn’t need anything. I’ve suggested a metal detector or a telescope, both were a no.
i’ve got him tickets for a show and I’m taking him on holiday next year but he still believes in Santa which kind of makes it harder because I feel like this is my last Christmas with that ‘wow he’s been’ on Christmas morning. But I don’t want to spend money for no reason (like every other year). I just want him to have a nice morning. I did consider a VR headset but his dad has got him one for his PlayStation (has an Xbox at our house) so he won’t need one at each house and also don’t want to take the shine of his dads gift. So i’m totally stuck!

A mobile phone ready for high school next year. So not much else after that. Maybe art supplies and some clothes she needs.

DinosaurOfFire · 04/10/2022 08:46

My 10 year old DD is getting: Rainbow High dolls, Schleich figures, Squishmallows and computer games, probably some other bits I can't remember right now.

ReadyForPumpkins · 04/10/2022 08:51

I think the mobile phone is an inspired one. She'll want it for secondary. DD is in year 7 and their class has a whatsapp group and all her fans are on whatsapp. Homework is in the satchel one app. The app sends notification when homework is due which is brilliant.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/10/2022 08:53

I'm getting DS a laptop, its something he really wants and will be practical for secondary school. For some reason he enjoys making PPT presentations - mostly about pokemon or aliens 😁

EnamelWoman · 04/10/2022 09:03

My 10 year old is having a subscription to the Beano as his main present

SafeHeaven · 04/10/2022 10:00

Smellies are out as they give her eczema.

already has a camera and ipad.

Shes in year 5, so i feel shes a little young for a mobile.

no longer plays with toys.

it her birthday in a week, so shes having squishmallows and stationary stuff etc.

doesn't need any clothes etc.

i don't want to buy for buyings sake, but i don't want her to have hardly anything to open either.

We're doing a laptop as a joint Xmas/birthday present for DD1 who will be turning ten. She also loves making presentations, about Pokémon or Warrior Cats.

I'll be getting her some other smaller bits to open as well - a microfibre hair towel, tattoo pens, crafting bits (she likes clay and Fimo), etc.

PhantomErik · 04/10/2022 10:23

Modelling wire & plasticine

Teddy bear bedding
Sketch book & pencils
Jurassic Park logo lamp
Jurassic World DVD
Christmasaurus & Naughty List book
Natural History puzzle book
Fake bonsai tree
Lego Harry Potter Dragon

Notjusta · 04/10/2022 10:24

What about a day out or trip somewhere like a theme park, a show/musical etc? You could do an overnight stay as well depending on the budget.

10 is a tricky age though.

DinosaurOfFire · 04/10/2022 11:44

If she doesn't play with toys yet, what about a games console like a switch? Does she have any hobbies which need equipment, maybe a Kindle for reading?

DinosaurOfFire · 04/10/2022 11:44

Yet* should be "any more".

Freedom2023 · 04/10/2022 11:51

10 year old DS so far

Pogo stick
lion paint by numbers from amazon (it's a really colourful one that comes already mounted on a canvas)
Chess set
Rock painting, origami and dimante by numbers set all from The Works (they do all different sets £5 each or 3 for £12)
Thinking about getting a Mi Band after seeing them recommended on here.
Pokemon Violet switch game

He's asked for a Samsung phone but the contracts I've been looking at are all so expensive and I really don't know which phone to go for because he really won't use it that much at all.

VatofTea · 04/10/2022 12:41

SeasonalFeasts · 06/10/2022 13:23

Does she like Harry Potter? Mine is getting mainly harry potter themed things, and a board game as she loves them

Fidget toys?

SafeHeaven · 06/10/2022 13:58

No interest in Harry Potter.

I think fidget toys are out now aren’t they? She never plays with them like she did last year. I asked if people still swap them at school, but apparently nobody is bringing them in now, although school haven’t banned them.

she did say she wanted build a bear clothes but I have refused this request as we have loads of build a bear clothes away 2 years ago as they were never played with

My 9yr old has gone back to playing with some younger toys lately - I think he’s realising he’s growing up and is cherishing his childhood before he says goodbye to being a young child! Maybe the build a bear wouldn’t be such a bad idea if she’s asked for it? Why buy things she hasn’t asked for if there’s something she wants?

pintsizeprincess · 06/10/2022 14:12

My 10 year dd is getting, art bits, hair curling tongs , a foot spa set, squishmallow, Harry Potter bits and pieces, Does she like doing her hair into different styles? I'm considering getting one of those mannequin styling heads with real hair for DD. I've seen Amazon have them. They look good fun .

The reason I don’t want to buy the build a bear stuff is because I’ve bought it before, it wasn’t played with and ended up being given away.

she loves Minecraft but that’s all on the iPad and free so it’s not something you actually buy.

Would she appreciate something like an animal adoption or maybe an animal encounter experience? A subscription to something?
