As per the titles, what are the best games for this age group please?

DS loves board games, and currently really enjoys Catan, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens and Labyrinth.

Oh and King of Tokyo!

Annoyed200722 · 02/10/2022 17:44

Thanks everyone. We have a few of these already, but lots of suggestions that I've not even heard of, so will do some research and no doubt choose one or two of these suggestions.

Thanks for these suggestions.
AblindAssassin is the Minecraft game actually any good? DA has mentioned it, but I had assumed it wouldn't be great. TIA

My 9 yo loves (and I mean really loves) Dixit. Lots of expansions available too.

PinkHeadphones · 06/10/2022 07:29

My DS also loved board games at that age - as well as the ones you mentioned he liked Munchkins, King of Tokyo, Sushi Go Party, Forbidden island and Carcassonne .

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 06/10/2022 08:00

The Minecraft-themed boardgame mentioned upthread www.board-game.co.uk/product/minecraft-board-game/ is indeed very good. Very playable with interesting strategy options, ideal for this age group.

Also recommended:
Colt Express
Carcassonne
Santorini
Blokus
Patchwork
Castles of Mad King Ludwig
Imhotep
The Captain is Dead

girlmom21 · 06/10/2022 08:01

Would he be interested in chess?
Draughts was (and still is) my favourite game at that age.

Needmorelego · 06/10/2022 08:03

Does no one just play Connect 4 and Hungry Hungry Hippos anymore 😂

Mousetrap Grin

@girlmom21 classic Mousetrap I hope. The new version is pants.

Sorry for the late reply!

Yes the minecraft board game (the original one, we don't have the newer one) is great! It's a bit like Splendour. We have had it for a couple of years and it still gers played regularly and we find new winning strategies etc.

SomethingAboutNothing · 09/10/2022 11:09

Card game wise our ds loves monopoly deal, and it's much quicker than the original board game!

Lyonesse2020 · 09/10/2022 13:44

If he likes noughts and crosses, try Otrio. My 10 year old loves it.

DrLucyVanPelt · 09/10/2022 14:42

Some great suggestions above that my nearly 10 year old likes. Also,
-Quacks of Quenlinburg
-Sandwich Masters (card game)
-Sequence

Stompythedinosaur · 10/10/2022 11:21

Takenoko is a current favourite here. Carcassonne is good too.

There are some great two player games my 9 and 11yos enjoy - Hive, Tatsu and Shobu are all good

Throw throw burrito and Cards Against Humanity family edition are both fun and a bit rowdier.

Squiblet · 10/10/2022 11:31

Forbidden desert
Sushi go
Beginner's guide to dungeons and dragons
Poetry for Neanderthals
Taco cat goat cheese pizza (haven't tried this but it looks fun)

And for a longer term game, our family loved The adventures of Robin Hood (from Kosmos) - a co-operative game that's a bit Choose your Own Adventure.

PeskyYeti · 10/10/2022 20:40

My sons favourite are

Throw throw burrito
Mario game of life
Normal game of life
Catan
Pandemic
Ticket to ride
Herd mentality

We accidentally have two copies of The Captain Is Dead, and it’s the hardest game I’ve ever played! I just let DS tell me what to do every turn. Left to myself the ship would explode or be overrun by aliens or whatever every time, while I just flailed.

Hive
Wingspan
Agricola
Caverna
Nusfjord
At the Gates of Loyang
