Mine has his birthday in November too.

Doesn't drink, likes to read and gardening so generally gets books, funny T-shirts or plants or statues for the garden and I'm completely stumped.

What about a weekend away? Book subscription?

girlmom21 · 02/10/2022 12:43

I can't do a weekend away as my parents have caring responsibilities unfortunately.

I have done a book subscription previously and also his favourite magazine subscriptions but I might look at another - thanks!

I've bought my Dad an old skool Levi denim shirt, I picked it up in the Next clearance for £30. He's a 1970s rocker its right up his Street.

I've got my dad a pie maker thing for his birthday this month. He loves pies but my mum doesn't, and it does two deep filled individual pies (which can be sweet or savoury, and be frozen). He can lob any of his offal/old school favourite meals my mum can't stand into individual pies then for another day Grin was about £28 from curry's.

girlmom21 · 02/10/2022 13:06

@Jericha oh wow another cool idea... going to look! Thanks!

I put this on another Christmas thread....
A £20 note and a chocolate Santa.
Every year. He's the easy one !!

caringcarer · 02/10/2022 13:42

My Dad is dead but he always used to love a ticket to go to the cricket. I used to go with him and we always had a wonderful day.

jocktamsonsbairn · 02/10/2022 17:07

What about theatre or cinema tickets? Voucher for a nice meal out - if they can manage this with their responsibilities.

For my parents Nov/Dec birthdays we've got them luxury advent calendars which we know they'll love. L'occitane for mum and a 12 days of whisky one fir dad. There are so many out there I'm sure one would make your dad happy for his Nov birthday.

YorkieTheRabbit · 02/10/2022 18:25

Seed advent calendar for his birthday?
Good quality gardening gloves

I'm doing restaurant vouchers this year.
For his birthday I might do a book subscription I found where you get tea and biscuits with each book.

Crazykefir · 02/10/2022 19:43

New dressing gown. His ones falling to bits.

I did one for my step mom a couple of years ago where you get a vintage book and a bag of coffee every month for 3 months which was cute

RHS flower show tickets

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 02/10/2022 19:52

Not sure this year, normally tickets to events, last year to a musical, may take him to a football match this year with my DD.

If he likes gardening - what about some lovely roses from David Austen, maybe try and theme them for something of connection to him.

Oh I might have a look at roses - that's a good idea, thanks!

Last year I did a combined gift of tickets for the Harry Potter studio tour which was very much appreciated.

@YorkieTheRabbit thank you so much for the seed advent calendar suggestion. I've just ordered that for his birthday.

Jumper from m&s or a bottle of gin.

Onionbhajisandwich · 02/10/2022 20:01

Wildlife camera?

YorkieTheRabbit · 02/10/2022 22:26

@girlmom21 😊 glad it was helpful.

I saw David Austin roses mentioned by someone. They are lovely roses, we have quite a few,. The only problem with getting them later in the year is that they have been cut back and stripped of the leaves so there is much to show.
If that’s not a problem great, but thought it’s best to let you know.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 02/10/2022 22:35

Probably just a gift card for somewhere unless I find him something nice at the outlet shops when I go shopping in a few weeks.

Decafflatteplease · 02/10/2022 22:38

Mines getting a painting this year. Previous years have been bird feeders, bird bath, houseplants, national trust vouchers

Thatboymum · 02/10/2022 22:38

I know how much mn hate them but I got my dad a private number plate this year, previous years it was always beer and season passes to football and once as a joint gift for mum and dad both me and sibling paid for them to go to New York for a week but that was a one off and a special year for them both. My dad in all fairness would be happy with a crate of beer and a scratch card lol
