I'm thinking of making some different jams, chutneys and butters like lemon butter for presents this year.

I know it's quite twee and I'll have to be careful I don't spend more on the ingredients than I do on buying presents :(

Please tell me some good recipes.

Mango chutney - it makes about a jam jar full.

2 Mangoes peel one and chop them both so you take the stone out. You can peel both but if you buy mango chutney it probably has skin in.

Put in a pan with a 50/50 mix of sugar and vinegar, throw in a handful of raisins. Add a bit of spice if you like, chili, ginger, nutmeg - hot spices if you want.

Once you can draw a wooden spoon across the pan and leave a valley it is done - put in a sterile jam jar and leave it for a week or two.

Can you get out to pick a lot of blackberries to make jam? So many ready to pick where I am., but they won’t last much longer

Nigellas chilli jam and
Mary Berry's lemon curd always go down well. If you can get really good eggs from a farm for the lemon curd, it makes it a fantastic colour!
I'm going to try a Delia chutney this year but I'm new to chutneys...

Thank you for the suggestions.

Missed blackberry season but then I didn't have the freezer or fridge space to store them anyhow. Maybe next year!

BBC good food chilli jam to go with cheese - it's so delicious!

pretty Much any fruit makes decent jam. Same weight as fruit to sugar boil together. Simmer until it’s reduced by half. As gifts best to do two flavours to make it more unusual rhubarb and raspberry.

If you have nice, large jars. Make a simple syrup and poach pears, they look lovely on the shelf and taste great.

There’s a lovely recipe for apricot and tomato chutney on Nigel Slaters Christmas Chronicle podcast… going to making that myself this year 😊

I made this apple, rhubarb & ginger chutney a couple of years ago and it was truly awesome on our Christmas cheeseboard.

Like most chutneys it does benefit from being stored for around three months first if you have the patience.

Mary Berry's Christmas Chutney. The recipe is in a good food Christmas made easy book I have had for years. And now is the time to make it. Honestly it's delicious.
