for those who wish to craft all year December long, a thread for you. (Apologies if there’s already one) some ideas:
Christmassy scented play dough (will post recipe if you’d like)
wax melts
bunting
stockings (knitted, crocheted or sewn)
soap
quilts
candles
salt dough decorations

any ideas welcome!

Oh fuck you can’t do emoticons in thread title!

Homemade play dough recipe:
(made it with dd)
ingredients:
8 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp table salt
60ml warm water
food colouring
1 tbsp vegetable oil
essential oils (cinnamon, orange, frankincense are all quite Christmassy)

instructions:
Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In another bowl, mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring, essential oils and the oil.

  1. Pour the wet mix into the dry mix and mix with a spoon.
  1. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth, soft ish dough. If you want a darker colour, knead in some extra food colouring .
  1. Store in a box or tub, keeps for about 4 weeks in the fridge and maybe 2 out.

hope this helps someone, might be a nice activity (especially with Christmassy scented essential oils) or stocking filler

I'm going to decoupage a wooden advent calendar for my daughter. I enjoy crafting but my skills are limited...

Any ideas for crafts for kids aged 4? Easy simple, but something I might actually use

Shamelessly placemarking

I give the children one of the hobbycraft plain brown DIY ornaments and red/green/white/gold paint each year as one of their advent calendar things in the first week of December. They decorate as they like, then I write their name and the year on the bottom.
We’ve been doing it since the oldest was 2, and it’s an easy craft for the kids, but fun to see previous years ones when we put the tree up.
No actual Christmas crafts for me this year, I embroidered stockings last year and sewed a table runner a few years ago.

@Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough

Check out the Baker Ross website - loads of very cheap craft kits that young kids can make.

Cutting out snowflakes to put on windows was something I always did with my kids.
