Are connectix magic tiles worth it?

Just wondering if anyone has these? They are so expensive but I always find I waste money on cheaper rubbish that doesn't get played with. The thing my 5 and 1 year old do always do nicely together is build things - but we just have wooden blocks.
Would anyone recommend/ not recommend?
Thanks Smile

Don’t know about that brand. We have play mags and they seem pretty indestructible.

They’re fun for a while but my child did get bored ofnitnfairly quickly.

What about brio traintrack stuff?

DS plays with them more when he has some little cars or figures to make things for, like ramps, tunnels and houses etc, but yes a firm favourite

We have a huge collection built up mostly from birthday/Christmas presents for my youngest before he had an opinion on what he wanted. We love them- they are definitely our most played with toy by every age that visits. From building garages/houses that they then put figures in, to building patterns on the floor, to building mazes which we put hexbugs in to scuttle around.
I like that you can stack and store them fairly neatly on an ikea metal trolley so they aren’t taking up vast amounts of space for something that is versatile. I do think it’s worth picking either connetix or magtiles because I read some stuff comparing strength of magnets and these are best so easiest to build with at a young age and yet safe and secure because tiles themselves aren’t going to break/let magnets loose. I went with connetix and we first bought a set 3 years ago I think and never had anything break- despite big towers crashing down!

We have playmags and they're brilliant. I get them out every now and then and my 8 year old can't resist them. Also great to leave out when we have toddlers and other bigger kids visiting, they all play with them

We have some cheaper ones from amazon that aren't as strong but are very well played with.

We have magnetiles. Bought them about 8 years ago and are one of the go-to toys for our own children under 7, and any visiting child. Also very useful for homeschooling, homework etc for fractions, nets, area, volume….
Started with 60 or so, bought extra sets (30-60) for 2-3 more birthday/Christmases.

Thank you for the comments - that's really helpful! I'm trying to think more carefully about only buying what will actually get played with! I think I would enjoy these myself. Hoping there might be some sort of sale before Christmas!

I think they're great but good magnetic tiles are expensive. You could see if you can get some second hand, and then you could probably get more pieces for the same money.

Yes splurged on these (connetix) after a recommendation from a friend. Friend has 3 under 5 and these tiles are their most played with and most cooperative toy. My 3 year old plays with them almost every day. I won't lie I myself get more than a little satisfaction out of building things with him and organising them. As someone mentioned above, my son particularly likes constructing various containers/vehicles/houses for other toys eg his mini cars and dolls. He is just starting to become interested in trying to make models from his imagination (eg trying to make an animal design) thinking more carefully about symmetry, colour etc. They're a versatile toy and worth the money imo.

To add to above we have had them for several months and they've been played with most days
