What is everyone thinking of getting there women in there life. Have a couple of people to buy for in mid 50s. Around £75.

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 14/09/2022 20:31

I am in your demographic. I do not want flavoured gin, cashmere scarves or dressings gowns.
I would love lego, book tokens, some nice wellies that fit and support my dodgy feet and a night of unbroken sleep on a fluffy cloud.
Even dry gin and good quality chocolates would be lovely. And notebooks, lovely ones to fill with lists and ideas.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 14/09/2022 20:32

I am target age group and am actives trying to get rid of stuff.

I suspect that they would like to spend time with you doing something nice.

So do a card saying that you are going to take them to lunch/afternoon tea/the cinema/theatre/national trust property/wine tasting/whatever you might enjoy doing together.

TheHorrorOfIt · 14/09/2022 20:33

A kindle voucher! Or yes, a book subscription that sends you a paperback every month (having ascertained what might interest you)

Chevyimpala67 · 14/09/2022 20:34

Book voucher
Theatre voucher
Restaurant voucher

NOT chocolate, sweets, "novelty" items, toiletries, clothing or slippers thanks

lifewithme · 14/09/2022 18:37

My mum she is not into make up, perfume, baths etc candles, jewellery has no real hobbies. Doesnt drink. Walks dog.

My step mum very active like to keep fit runs daily.

A sweaty betty voucher for the runner.

aramox1 · 14/09/2022 21:10

Dressing gowns, scarves, gloves please no. And no one wants more fingerless gloves. I would always prefer consumables that are too end but everyday stuff eg a decent bottle of wine, top class olive oil, very good single estate chocolate or even tea.

lljkk · 14/09/2022 21:26

I'm mid 50s, into fitness I suppose.

I hate vouchers. I never know what to spend them on. Also trying to get rid of stuff & hopelessly fussy. I couldn't appreciate whatever a £75 bottle of wine tastes like. I'd get bored in a spa. I suppose massage vouchers might work, something always aches when you're late middle aged & into fitness.

Oxfam goats would be best for me, all the way. African Teachers. safe water treatment. I'd be delighted with those charity gifts.

AliceMcK · 14/09/2022 21:27

Omg I agree with others, I’m late 40s and some of these gifts sound totally depressing, I’m late 40s not late 70s. As for a safe shade of blue, I hate most shades of blue. Unless you know someone’s favourite colour I’d totally avoid buying something to wear.

Your mum - obviously very hard, my in-laws love their dogs, every Christmas I always include something for the dogs, chew toys, new balls etc..this goes down well. Dose she wear wellies while walking the dogs, I’m thinking nice welly socks/liners other than that maybe a voucher for a nice restaurant she would enjoy if not I definitely ask especially if she dosnt have any things she likes personally. I made up hampers for the in-laws a couple of years ago, I put in dog toys, mug for FIL (non drinker) his favourite tea bag’s & biscuits, pair of warm socks, sudoku book & portable power bank for his phone, MIL got gin liquor which I knew she loved, gin glass, dog toys, nice chocolate & a candle. Other dog related things, I bought FIL (main dog walker) a heated gilet, he uses it when walking dogs and going to the football.

Stepmum - may be easier, dose she have a particular brand of skin care she likes, my Mum always liked a certain face cream but couldn’t always afford it so I’d buy it for Xmas & birthdays. Massage gun or voucher for deep tissue massage, new EarPods for running…

Most generic gifts I get given end up regifted or donated. I never liked vouchers when I was younger but like them now, I don’t like ones that are for a certain shop though, I prefer ones that give me an option where to shop.

KalaniM · 14/09/2022 18:18

What are they interested in?

generic gift would be cashmere scarf/ gloves in a safe shade of blue!

But HOT FLUSHES

theoriginalteletubby · 14/09/2022 21:32

I'm in this age bracket and I like nice things that get used up. I.e. no more 'Stuff', I don't need more things in my life.

Things I really enjoy that I buy myself Bamford, Neom or Aery diffuser, candles, bath stuff or Clarins bath and body stuff. You can soon lose £75 on a nice diffuser.

Snowiscold · 14/09/2022 21:36

I’m mid-50s. I would like a stylish umbrella and a stylish nice backpack. I would hate any form of spa day. No bath or body stuff. I like hats, but they are very personal things.

goldfinchonthelawn · 14/09/2022 21:44

I'd ask them. Say you'd like to buy your mum some walking gear and your step mum some running gear and ask them to send you links to a few things they'd love to receive.

I'm that age range and woud love outdoor gear - good hiking socks or a stylish pacaway waterproof.

Lovetogarden2022 · 14/09/2022 21:44

For step mum, maybe something from sweaty Betty? Or something for the kitchen like a blender to make smoothies if she's into fitness etc?

For your mum, I have no idea but M&S always have inspiration for me even if I don't buy it from there in the end. They've currently got dressing gowns that can be personalised with initials for instance, or some good brand slippers (we've got my mum some ugg slippers in the past that were on sale for about £60)

Other than that, BASE Skncare is a nice brand, even if they're not especially into skincare. I've bought the moisturiser and cleanser for my mum a few times for Xmas/birthdays and she loves it.

Lovetogarden2022 · 14/09/2022 21:46

Also activities sound great by the way! My mum always prefers a day out or a memory than "gifts" so maybe a lunch and trip to a different little town or village for the day?

MintJulia · 14/09/2022 22:03

I'm 50s

A generic gift, I'm always happy withJohn Lewis vouchers.

A personal gift is difficult, best thing to do is ask.

HundredMilesAnHour · 14/09/2022 22:06

I'm your target demographic and there's very little for £75 I will like as I have pretty much everything that I want (and my cashmere scarves, leather gloves etc cost a lot more than £75!) and if I don't have it, I probably wouldn't want it. So experiences are better, such as:

Afternoon tea somewhere decent (such as the Mandarin Oriental or Claridges)
A speedboat trip on the Thames
Walking with alpacas in the Lake District
A reflexology session
Donation to a wildlife rescue that I support

No to alcohol or chocolates or candles (yawn). And a dressing gown or slippers wouldn't end well for anyone.

MissyCooperismyShero · 14/09/2022 22:06

I'm at the older end of your target market and would like earbuds, an echo dot or similar and a couple more smart plugs, some acrylic paints and pourable resin, a jigsaw of at least 1000 pieces, or maybe a steam or oculus voucher. If it has to be something generic then wine or (milk) chocolates.

SomethingFast · 14/09/2022 22:09

I’m in this age bracket, and would love gig tickets for something obnoxiously loud, an interesting bottle of whisky or a track day to drive a supercar. But ideally a voucher or cash, then I could please myself.

BitsAndBaubles · 14/09/2022 22:12

@lifewithme I am late forties I would love a voucher for a creative workshop eg candle making or floristry www.craftcourses.com have lots of great ideas

soupmaker · 14/09/2022 22:21

I'm in your target market. Absolutely do not want stuff. I've bought everything I would like and am decluttering all the stuff I no longer want. If anyone asked what they should get me with £75 I'd say lunch out or a gig with them. I'm all about doing things with people now.

SpinCityBlues · 14/09/2022 22:27

I want the Playmobil campervan.

www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/construction-and-cars/playmobil/playmobil-3647-family-camper-van/p/214176

I do not want 'a lovely scarf'.

eurochick · 14/09/2022 22:37

I'm in your demographic. I would appreciate a nice scarf. I'm a chilly person. Cashmere bed socks has been another winner for my block-of-ice feet.

I also run. Running gloves and a neck buff are good.

Otherwise, I know a lot of people are not fans but I love good quality body lotions. I would also like some jewellery as I'm building up my collection again following a burglary😡

RoseMartha · 14/09/2022 22:38

A massage and/or manicure

A theatre ticket or tickets for 2

Earrings or necklace

Voucher for clothes shop they like

MuddlerInLaw · 14/09/2022 22:39

and my cashmere scarves, leather gloves etc cost a lot more than £75!

I doubt I was the only poster too polite to say this out loud. Grin

ShaunaTheSheep · 14/09/2022 23:25

Well to be fair so does my Lego!
