Anyone Christmas abroad this year?

Hi we are considering going away for Christmas this year to New York which will involve Christmas Day. I am still thinking it through but the kids are on board and after doing some research I'm actually looking forward to something different but I'm just wondering what your thoughts on this would be please.

Organise a mini Christmas Day dinner before we fly out to allow aunts/uncles and grandparents to see dc and do gift giving then.

Or

Organise the above for the day after we return home.

My other thing is do I do Santa at home and ask a relative/friend to take a photo to show dc or do I do Santa away with smaller gifts for dc and gift cards to allow them buy what they want think stores like Lego, American girl ect.

We go to the us for Christmas on alternate years - we do a Christmas Day here with the other grandparents before we go, everyone is over it afterwards. The excitement is gone.

Kids have always understood that presents will be here when they get back. We take their main ones over or get relatives to order for us, but they have to be small and able to fit in luggage allowance on the way home.

I love not being here for Christmas!

We're taking our two (8 & 10) to California for Christmas and NY. Whilst we will probably go and see FC at a mall (or similar), we have no plans to do a Christmas dinner etc. The whole point is for it to be totally different to a Chirstmas here. We will take a couple of things for them to open but honestly, we just won't make a big thing of the 'day' itself. The last two years at home, they were both saying they were bored by 10am! We'll probably go out for the day instead.
