Hi

I have read previous threads on presents , but they are all a bit out of date. Toys change so much, so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

I will have a 3.5 year old this Christmas. He’s really into marvel characters and has a few of these at home plus the costumes. (Doesn’t watch the films here as of yet ) loves arts and crafts.
likes games where we play together such as hungry hippos and the catch a fish game.
we have all the garden stuff (trampoline, swing, slide, sandpit
he has a bike
any ideas ?

baby girl won’t be getting much this year. Just looking for a general idea

I’m on maternity leave and with the cost of living etc, I want to buy early.

thanks. (Ps. Also aware those questions is asked a lot, but again, I struggled to find anything up to date for ideas)

x

I wouldn't bother with presents for the 6 month old personally. Or if you do just wrap up some toys she already has and she can have fun unwrapping. Yoyo player for 3.5 year old?

Cuwins · 31/08/2022 08:40

My 10m old girl is getting: a push along trolley walker (free on Facebook!) with blocks to go in it as her main present. Then she has clothes, a push along tiger, galt pop up people, a VTech microphone and a bath toy tidy.
Then her stocking is: clothes, stacking cups, toy animals, bath book, cup, paint brushes, board book, toy car, bath toys, hand puppet, slinky, VTech ball (given to me free) and cutlery.
All brought 50% off in sales, 2nd hand or free!
Other ideas we have on the Amazon list for family are: books, clothes, galt frog in a box, large push along vehicle, munchkin snack catchers, swim bag, VTech football friend, baby Einstein drums, bath toys, aqua doodle, crayola bath dropz, story CDs, sensory balls, some things for art/messy/sensory play, Melissa and Doug magnets, sleeping bag in the next size up, lunch box/bag and rucksack for taking to childminders, money towards her next size car seat, hide and squeak eggs, lift out puzzles with large handles, some bits for her room, bowl/plate, teether, toiletries, wooden food, rag doll, some musical instruments.

Thr gifts for the baby are so ds can enjoy the magic! I'll have an 11 month at Christmas, she is getting some of her brothers old toys (removed years ago) and some things she needed anyway, clothes, a blanket, cutlery, books etc. Father Christmas is bringing a stacking rainbow as it's one thing we actually don't have!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 31/08/2022 09:21

Playdoh kitchen creations
For games, my dc enjoyed Kerplunk, Gruffalo Deep Dark Wood, Shark Bite and Frustration
Kinetic sand
AquaPlay lock box
Kid Knex
Playmobil (the fire station, zoo and campervan were big hits with my DS)
Mr Men library
Marble run (would recommend the Galt one, unless you have Duplo in which case get a Duplo compatible one)

Louise0701 · 31/08/2022 09:23

Jumperoo for the baby. Cuddly toys. Interactive toys.

3.5 yo- character toys, new dress up, duplo, more games like crocodile dentist, pop up pirate.

Strawblue · 31/08/2022 21:30

3.5 year old:
Duplo/Lego
Wooden train set
Aquadoodle
Play-Doh
Orchard Toys games
Scooter
Books

6 month old:
Leapfrog Scout (DS loved this)
Sensory balls (I bought a friend’s baby a set of about 6 balls of different textures and they were well-liked)
Those small colourful cardboard books that attach to the pram etc
Bath toys
Stacking cups

EcoCustard · 31/08/2022 22:31

I wouldn’t get much for a 6 month old, space blanket, sensory toy anything practical that they might need, to open. Spend it on an annual pass for a local attraction you enjoy. We had an annual farm one for many years.

Dc4 will be 3.5 at Christmas and thinking
Playmobil take along fire station
Playmobil fire truck
Hot wheels cars (loves playing with brother)
Bug hunting kit
Book

stocking will have so far:
colouring/sticker book
pens (if needed)
Chocolate buttons
small craft kit
hot wheels car
Tape measure

Thank you so much for all of these replies.
I will have a good look online for these.

I had a look on Facebook market place for some things for baby. We have some stuff left from her big brother and these can be reused which is great.

something I do too is 2nd hand books.
tou can get some really great copes in charity stores but also on eBay book stores.

much appreciated x

Mine are going to be similar ages. So far I've only really bought for the baby as it's DS's birthday in October.

3 year old is getting:
Playmobil 123 zoo.
Mini micro scooter
Orchard games
Books
Glow in the dark stars for his room
Door sign for his room
Not really sure what else to be honest. I'm waiting to see what he gets for his birthday.

So far, 10 month old DD is getting:

VTech Walker
Little Life backpack and reins
Personalised dressing gown
Light up rocket bath toy
Dear Zoo buggy book
Door sign for her room

I'll probably take the 3 year old shopping nearer the time to choose a toy for her "from him".

I have a 3.5 year old, but a daughter. She is very into craft (colouring books, sticker books, paint sticks etc) and is starting to get into games such as snakes and ladders and monopoly junior.

Does he have a scooter or a didicar?

Character bedding, fleece throws, towels

Marble run - Have do a nice one

Duplo do marvel sets

Magnetic tiles

Jigsaw puzzles

I'm getting DD her first Playmobil for Christmas - though she is turning 4 at Xmas so your son might not be quite ready

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/09/2022 14:22

For the 6 month old I would keep it simple

Clothes in next size up
New plate and bowl set
New bibs if needed
Tomy squeaky eggs if you don't have them
A few new books
First Christmas teddy bear for keepsake
Children's nursery rhyme cd

Maybe a jumperoo if you don't have one and want something like that. Usually around £20 on Facebook marketplace and resell for the same price

BeastOfBODMAS · 02/09/2022 14:33

@17caterpillars1mouse I second the Tomy eggs for the 6 month old. Mine is absolutely engrossed by them and will happily play for as long as it takes me to have my morning coffee in peace!

I have these on the list for my dd who will be 10m at Christmas- do you think she will still like them then?

BeastOfBODMAS · 02/09/2022 15:50

@Cuwins my DD is 9.5 months old and no sign of getting bored.
there’s something about the weighting of them that they spin on their heads for ages too, so that’s a good high chair distraction whilst dinner cooks down

For the baby I would suggest clothes they are going to need in the next size up and maybe some teething rings, my LO had some from 6 months onwards and still played with them as magic hoops, putting them on their foot, as a hat etc until about age 2.

Lyonesse2020 · 02/09/2022 16:33

My 11yo still remembers his little sister's first Christmas, when he was 5 and she was 6 months. He particularly remembers that Santa brought her the biggest present under the tree - a cot mattress!

For his first Christmas, he got a playpen.

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/09/2022 20:12

@Cuwins

We got the eggs when DD1 was 7 months, she is now 6 and her and Dd3 still play with them at least once a week with their play kitchen lol

Letsbekindplease · 02/09/2022 23:39

I’ve heard great things about these little eggs! I’ll add them to the list

will also add the towel, door sign and I love the idea of stars. He absolutely loves the moon and I’ve actually found this amazing moon lamp.

I also thought about the stacking blocks for the baby and I’ll buy her next size up.

he doesn’t have a scooter but has a balance bike.

fantastic ideas so far.
