Office Christmas Parties

Are people going ahead with these this year? I'm thinking people might not have the spare money to spend on meals/nights our.

No one has mentioned ours yet and usually have been discussed by now

I’m so pleased I’m no longer at work and so don’t have to suffer the Annual Christmas Lunch. The parties when I was a teacher were the worst.

Ours is, don't know what it will be yet though.

There plenty of people who will have disposable income still.

We had a quick vote in the office last week. The consensus is we will all go to lunch together, at the Italian in our building, no dressing up, no fuss just pizza and a glass of wine on the company.

Since we only do 1 day a week in the office since lockdown, it's actually quite a sociable prospect. We don't spend enough time together to annoy each other 😊

We don't really have them but I know friends in other offices have theirs already organised and everyone going

Not sure about ours... Company pays anyway. Last year's was cancelled due to many covid positive.

Don't know. I really dislike work parties anyway, so won't be going regardless. Don't mind just low key meals very occasionally with 4 closer colleagues but nothing more. I spend enough time with people, I don't want to see them outside. I like many of my colleagues but I want to be with my family when I'm not working. There are people I work with who go to anything and everything and I just don't understand them at all.

Our last 2 Christmas socials have been on Zoom! I was looking forward to one this year. They usually keep costs down but we have to pay for ourselves, so will see what happens.

Ours announced the venue this morning.
Very posh, very expensive (for them), overnight accommodation / transport all paid for and probably going to be good do (if you like that sort of thing).
I am on A/L that week (pre-arranged to coincide as I don't want to go!).

Will probably have a more intimate dinner with my close colleagues another day.

I doubt we'll have Christmas parties, leaving do's etc. again not we're WFH, unless it's within our sub teams, won't happen on a full team basis.

Just booked it but Dp's company pays for employees and partners including taxis hence me researching venues. Only cost is an outfit which people can recycle as last Christmas party was in 2019!

We don’t have an official party & nothing is ever paid for by the company. The most we do is go out for drinks but I don’t go as it tends to get pretty messy! Last year I went out for a meal with a few of my close colleagues

Some of us work in the public sector. We don't even get tea/coffee/milk/sugar, let alone parties and taxis.

@DisplayPurposesOnly you do get public sector pensions and public sector sick leave though!

Nothing planned as yet, last year we just had a team meal out rather than a wider department one...

I'm in the public sector, so we organise and pay for our own meal. If we are exceptionally lucky our service head might stick a (measley) amount behind the bar for drinks, but we calculated last time it was the equivalent of about £2 each... 🙄🤣

That said, I'm not planning to go as it's a bit of a distance from me.

Not every private company guarantees milk, coffee etc. too. I remember working at the dentists where nurses chipped in to buy teabags and milk. It was private practice with very cheap boss.
