What's a good advent calendar for me and my Mum?

I bought advent calendars for both of us for Christmas 2020 because we couldn't see each other until Christmas Day and it was nice for both of use to be able to open the same thing every day and then we had something to talk about on the phone (because fuck all else was going on). Same for last year. I got Rituals for 2020 and l'Occitane last year. The Rituals one was a nice mix and included skin care and things like candles. The l'Occitane one was a bit too heavy on the hand cream, I think there were seven or eight little tubes, but everything smelled lovely.

Any recommendations for this year? I don't need to do it because we're not under lockdown anymore so Mum and I are able to meet up, but I think she quite enjoyed it so I still might.

We don't use make up, I have a tendency to be allergic to things but Mum is fine. Not perfumes, teas or coffees.

Thanks.

Jam? The Bonne Maman one went down well with my relative.

Yankee candle?

I second Yankee candle, there's something nice and cozy about lighting a festive smelling candle every night.

For the last few years I’ve fancied the Whittier’s of chelsea hot chocolate advent calendar. Might treat myself this year!

I get my mum and myself the M&S beauty advent calendar every year. We love it! There's a good mix of skincare, hair products and makeup. Often a makeup bag or something else in it too.

Degusta is great fun. Huge calendar with random edibles that made my DH and DD giggle last year.

Holland and Barrett - Ethical beauty, I have sensitive skin and find the majority of things are suitable for me too

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/08/2022 21:19

Thanks, lots of ideas there. I will browse. Grin

DH got me a cheese and biscuits one last year, a good mix of little waxed cheddars, biscuits and chutneys.

Lumene do a nice advent calendar, mostly skincare, I got one for my mum and I last year

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/08/2022 22:40

Do you know when Lumene bring out their advent calendar Costacoffeeplease? Mum has a Finnish sister-in-law so that might be a bit of extra interest for her.

I like the TreatBox but I would prefer consumables as Mum doesn't want 'stuff'. She has been doing a version of Swedish death cleaning for a couple of years now and off-loading everything that she doesn't use. Personally I think it's a little early as she's 81 but her mother lived to nearly 95, but on the other hand I'm sinking under a weight of clutter in my house (mostly from the teenagers) so it might be a good thing for me to start too. I got DD the Holland & Barrett calendar in 2020 as she was envious of us. She mostly swapped her things for my Rituals candles. It had some nice stuff but also a lot that wasn't really my kind of thing.

Oh my, thanks for this link. It looks fab. My DH has just been looking at it, here's hoping he gets the not-so-subtle hint 😅

Earlymenopausesucks · 24/08/2022 11:20

The white company one is lovely.

Johnnysgirl · 24/08/2022 14:11

What sort of stuff is in it?

Johnnysgirl · 24/08/2022 14:12

Sorry, there's a link above 🤦‍♀️

Ooh, do you know where he got it from?

We saw this great one for gardening, my Mum and I did this last year and we shared the seeds and had a growing competition, was good as kept us talking all year round about it. Looks like they are doing a flower one this year too:

Have a look at Really Ree and type in beauty advent calendars - she will give you the low down on what is in most of them. For me the God of advent calendars is Jo Malone...

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2022 13:12

The seed one looks great. What sort of stuff did you get? Mum grows her own tomatoes, but other than that doesn't really have an interest in veg growing.

I'm going to check out Really Ree, thanks.
