Ideas for presents for a 9yo girl

Hive mind please offer me some ideas for what I can get DD for her birthday and Christmas which are only a couple of weeks apart.

I don’t want to get her electronics such as an iPad or laptop, she does have a Kindle Fire. She loves make up, board games, lego and non-fiction books.

This year it just feels harder than before.I wish there was still the Argos catalogue which she could flick through and circle all of the things she likes the look of!

Gelly pens

PollyPeeves · 20/08/2022 22:20

Smyths toys still do a catalogue if that would help with ideas

LoversLane · 20/08/2022 22:33

It was DDs birthday on Monday. Presents from us, close family and god mother included:
Watch, Tool box for all her craft stuff, Poppit bag, gymnastics bag with her name on it, Tapestry kit, key ring, ruck sack for school, m&S voucher and Book voucher, giant chocolate buttons.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/08/2022 22:47

Slippers
DD got some of these last Christmas when she was just 10. Loves them.

Notwashingup · 20/08/2022 22:51

Fit-bit watch, roller boots, swing ball, manga colouring book, flower press, rock painting set are my DDs most used things these holidays.

Mrsfussypants1 · 20/08/2022 22:55

Something for her bedroom, e.g big Bertha bean bag, sky light projector, strip lights. Teddy/fur bedding.
*Oodie or something similar
*Desk/dressing table with lights
*Wireless headphones
*Anything from Lush
*Bag and purse fill the purse with gift cards for her favourite shops/restraunts/cinema ( leave the gift cards till nearer the time as some shops may struggle/close due to financial climate, cineworld is in trouble.
*theatre tickets or another experience she may like
*Lego

Oh electronic Monopoly has just come out too, was mentioned on another post that argos have it in.

My dd is also turning 9 just before Christmas and said to me recently she's not asking for any toys at all this year! She seems to have changed a lot over the past few months and is more in to fashion, accessories, stuff for her bedroom, art supplies etc.

I feel like I'm also going to struggle this year!

Makeup case, I saw some nice cheap ones in home bargains this week.
Themed make up brushes
I have 8 & 10yo DDs , they are getting a new bedroom makeover soon, I’ve been looking at things to go in the room, peg boards, a mix of artificial plants and real ones to hand off the peg board, they have asked for these, one has asked for a trolly on wheels like the hairdressers have, LED light strips, new vanity mirror, etc…
Top model colouring and design books are great
They also love Manga colouring books
Wireless headphones for her tablet
Beanie Boos
Canvas and art sets
Oodies, I got mine fake ones last Christmas off Amazon, they love them.
Shopping spree, both mine wanted money for birthdays this year and we did a big girly shopping spree where they had free rein to spend their money on what they wanted without me saying no, that’s to expensive.

Mrsfussypants1 · 20/08/2022 23:04

Camera
Hd sprocket or other photo printer
Scrap book set, washi tape etc
Rollerblades

SkankingWombat · 20/08/2022 23:06

I have an 8yo, and she has recently bought herself a sewing machine and Garmin fitness watch with money she'd saved plus what she'd been given for her birthday. I had bought her a sewing box with a few basic bits in for her birthday, which is what had prompted the sewing machine purchase.
I agree with PPs about gel pens - she can't seem to get enough of those. She loves Lego, especially the Harry Potter stuff (HP anything is a hit TBH), and her subscription to The Phoenix comic.

SkankingWombat · 20/08/2022 23:11

Just having a look down my bday/xmas ideas list and I have Fimo on it, that might work if she's craft-y? She has also requested a Raspberry Pi, but I can see that gathering dust after the first flush of excitement.

Experiences-
Theatre tickets and a day in London
Harry Potter World
Sight seeing around London, London Eye, etc

Rollerblades
Bike
Non fiction book - My secret war diary by Flossie Albright (it's the best WW2 history book I ever found).

Wow! Thank you all for some amazing ideas. I’m going to make a massive list of all these suggestions and start “sounding her out” ever so casually.
I will get hold of a Smyth’s catalogue and also get her to look at the online Lego store for some ideas there.

I knew I could reply on the Christmas board for help!

My DD has just turned 9 last year and a Polaroid Camera went down well. She also loved a baking kit and some Lego friends

ConsuelaHammock · 21/08/2022 16:16

One of the larger Lego ideas sets. They go up in value once they’re discontinued too so it’s essentially an investment 😂

paint by numbers
sewing machine
crochet hooks and yarn

The2Omicronnies · 22/08/2022 20:19

My daughter will also have her 9th birthday close to Christmas; I’ve already started buying (as I usually buy on behalf of family members too), and so far have got Shadow High dolls from Smyths, Harry Potter Lego, 3D pen and loungewear sets (including a fake Oodie thing from Next). She also wants Harry Potter clothing and a Luna Lovegood wand.

She loves make up and decent hair chalks, so will get more of those.

For her 8th birthday, as part of her gift, my mum got her a jewellery case with a glass top and lots of small compartments and filled it with clip-on earrings. Huge success!

Klutz craft sets are excellent (esp the Bake Shop & Sushi ones).

mamatoTails · 23/08/2022 09:03

Great thread - also have a DD turning 9 before Christmas, and her sister is 10.

Which are the best hair chalks? and where to buy?

Mine also love make up, nail polish & jewellery so may do a few bits for their stockings.

They also already have iPads but think I will get them new cases.

Really don't know what else.

AliceMcK · 23/08/2022 10:34

@The2Omicronnies ive just looked up that 3D it looks great, which one did you get? Is there anything specific to look at for one buying one?

Wishihadanalgorithm · 28/08/2022 13:24

Ooh more good ideas. Thank you all so much. I’ve been thinking about a netball hoop and ball so she can practise her shooting and I know she loves playing on her grandma’s keyboard/piano so may look for one of those too - just wondering about size though,

Having birthday and Christmas so close together definitely makes things more tricky. My DP (her DF) has his birthday a week before her birthday so December is a very expensive and stressful month! All the advice on here will really help.
