You could go to see the lights at the botanics.

We went last year. Edinburgh Zoo is lovely at Christmas. Has a great Santa and a lovely light trail. Really recommend

Edinburgh christmas markets are pretty grim to be honest and probably not much fun for kids.
Kirkliston just outside Edinburgh properly goes to town on people decorating the outside of their houses with lights etc. It's worth a walk round one evening (although it will be interesting to see if so many do it this year with the increase in energy bills!)
There's a Christmas charity santa parade and fun run in Inverleith Park next weekend greatscottishevents.net/virtual-christmas-challenge/
Conifox have a Christmas thing on conifox.merlintickets.co.uk/collections/Events
The lights thing at the Botanics is pretty and there's one on at the Castle too.
The Snow Queen ballet is on at the Festival Theatre www.capitaltheatres.com/whats-on/all-shows/scottish-ballets-the-snow-queen/51
Letters to Santa need to go soon! www.royalmail.com/christmas/letters-to-santa

Look up your local church for nativity scenes/Christingle service/carol singing.
