Where have all the nuts gone?

I remember always having a big bowl of nuts in their shells on the side at Christmas time. For the last couple of years I've struggled to buy any nuts except walnuts and hazelnuts, and even those are hard to find. AND they're not all that nice when you eat them. Do people not have nuts at Christmas any more? And why can't I get Brazils? And those reddish long round nuts? What were they called?

Asda do bags of mixed nuts avec shells. My mum used to sit with an opened out newspaper on her lap, cracking nuts for all us kids, and putting the shells in the paper.

You eat less of them because of all the hard graft necessary to get the blimmin things out.

Pecans are what you are thinking of.

I saw some unshelled brazil nuts in Waitrose this year, I haven't seen them for years.

I buy them ready shelled as I get right pissed of with all that cracking and not much reward!

We used to buy them, but put them aside as part of the excess of Christmas. They were great when they were seasonal but you can get them from Halloween onwards and they never get eaten, in this house.
