Orchide · 26/12/2007 11:41

Ours, a 14lber, cost abotu 30 quid

whoops · 26/12/2007 11:41

my 12.5lb turkey was £35 from the butcher
Dh was really worried about how much it was going to be as he thought it would be nearer £60
How much did it cost you then?

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 26/12/2007 11:42

Ours was free, thanks to DP's footie pal who is a butcher

BVloody nice it was too

cluelessnchaos · 26/12/2007 11:46

got a goose 5kg for 16 quid

clutteredup · 26/12/2007 11:50

MIne was half price in Somerfield, I had to get a medium 3.5 kg as the small ones had gone so paid £10 instead of £8, apparently there were queues outside on Sat morning, now I understand why, I just though that's how much they cost.

when i ordered at the end of october i was told 21lb and over would be 2.65 a lb but because you cant guarantee the bird to be exactly 21lb i couldn't pay until i collected.
I paid a £10 deposit and by my calculation i though it would be around £56.00 and sent my dh with £60 in case they said something like there is a small charge for boning and rolling (i didn't think to ask when i ordered if there was a charge for this) but alas he had to get the credit card out!

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 26/12/2007 11:57

Was it still 2.65 per lb?

How much did you pay in the end?

And was it delicious?

glastocat · 26/12/2007 12:04

I win (or lose). I ordered a 10-12 lb free-range turkey. I sent my husband to collect it and the -fucking conman- lovely butcher gave him a 17 pounder. It cost ?100! I'm surprised my husband didn't faint dead away! Its a good job I like turkey and am willing to be creative with leftovers. Also my guests were all gannets, so we managed to eat about half of it!

Lauriefairycake · 26/12/2007 12:10

Free range organic Kelly Bronze breast only - £32 - would feed 6-8 (said it only fed 4 but think they underestimated

Thought that was a great price - imo birds should be expensive and they should have a good life

kidsrusanta · 26/12/2007 12:12

OMG glasto do you live in an affleunt area?
thats £5.88 a lb.

wangle £4.03
c/pres £3.54
harman £3.56
whoops £2.80
orchide £2.14

Im feeling a bit better now

it was lovely with plenty left over but it did leave a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth.

We had a roast Gammon (just us 4 for dinner, and kids aren't that excited about turkey) ANYHOO, we got the gammon at tescos - any gammon over £20 was supposed to be £5 off, but at the til, the whole amount for the joint was taken off. It was super yummy!!!

boomie · 26/12/2007 12:14

Paid £45 for a 14lb (M&S free range). Gorgeous.

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 26/12/2007 12:15

ours cost £70 for a free ranger (feeds 13)

Bloody expensive but i watched some programme on battery turkeys and couldnt bring myself to buy a frozen bernard matthews one after that!

i did taste good though!

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 26/12/2007 12:15

IT tasted good! lol

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 26/12/2007 12:16

We had an Aberdeen Angus ready to roast beef joint from M&S, think was about £10. It was sooooo lovely.
And no we are not rich we normally shop in Asda & Tesco.
Turkey is something I have on a regular basis, usually get the breast steaks and using in casseroles and stirfries, so nothing special, where as roast beef is a rare treat!

LIZS · 26/12/2007 12:16

Free Range cost £33 @ £5.99 per kg/£2.72 per lb I think

lovey · 26/12/2007 13:21

Mine cost £60 from the butchers, but it was a to feed about 10/12

kiskidee · 26/12/2007 13:50

free range £3.50 per lb.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 26/12/2007 14:00

£65 for a 12lber, It was from Copas,But then we didn't even get to eat it.Don't mention the war.

Sparkler · 26/12/2007 14:01

We had a 14lb turkey which we ordered through the butchers. We had 9 people to feed from it and wanted to have some left over for sandwiches/curry etc. It cost £46 - which my mum very kindly paid for . It was delicious.
