For 3 hours when I got back. It was awful, 4 hours non stop on a till (not my job actually)and people are so rude. Some are pretty thick as well. if it says "2 for £5.00" on Rennie 72 packs then thats what it means. It doesn't mean "Pick any 2 pack of indegestion tablets you feel like and expect to get them for £5.00 and then shout at Saltire when she tells you it actually costs £6.05"

aren't people horrid

ArmadilloDaMan · 22/12/2007 18:42

so glad I'm not doing it this xmas.

The general public can be complete bastards.

CarmenerryChristmas · 22/12/2007 18:45

Oh you poor thing. I was shopping the other day and I was blindsiding staff in shops by being pleasant to them.

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 22/12/2007 18:46

I smile at every single customer, even the ones being horrid, in the hope it will amke them feel bad for being horrible and rude.

I worked at Tesco's one year over Xmas. Was amazed at how rude some poeple were. And we got disciplined if we dared to answer back or not smile. Crappy shop, crappy pay.

EffiePerine · 22/12/2007 18:52

Everyone in supermarkets so bloody rude at this time of year . Glad you survived

Snort. Did you ill-wish her sprouts?

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 22/12/2007 19:46

I smiled sweetly at her and said "Please don't threaten me with pyhsical violence or I will be compelled to get security"

lol well done

Gursky · 22/12/2007 20:53

I used to work in a library and was threatened fairly frequently. And then there were the drug addicts in the loos, and the prostitutes using it as a venue to pick people up.

You have my sympathy.

FlossALumpOfPud · 22/12/2007 20:53

I think the shop assistant today had had her fill. DP was holding the (crying) 3 month old, DS in the trolley thoroughly p'd off. I don't like to make a fuss so when she asked 'are you ok packing' I just mumbled, sort of. DP trying to reach to the depths of the trolley holding DD, to finish loading up, DS kicking off me desperately trying to keep up with her supersonic scanning.

CremolaFirCone · 22/12/2007 20:57

i was super lovely to all our customers today.they were noT all lovely back but heyho i am now in a darkened room feeling like i've just been on a roller coaster ride with my lips involuntarily mouthing

As a student I worked in Our Price - it was a horrendous at Xmas.

We used to get our own back on rude, obnoxious customers by deliberately putting the wrong record (remember them oldies?! ) or CD in the sleeves.

Very satisfying

southeastastra · 22/12/2007 21:02

ooh that's nasty but good betty. whatever happened to ourprice?!

BettySpaghetti · 22/12/2007 21:05

I was just asking DP if they still existed or not -I've not seen one in years

WeFrizYouaMerryChristmas · 22/12/2007 21:09

didn't Virgin buy them up?
We actually had a good day in shop today, not one person horrible to either me or dh though lots of people saying, we'll be back either tomorrow or monday for it, without wanting to put a deposit on said item, and of course next person in buys the last one...so no doubt tempers will fray in the next two days.....

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 23/12/2007 13:12

I'm working tomorrow as well. Maybe I should don a hard aht! I also still need to get something for DS1, as counted out the santa things last ngiht and he has 1 less.Argh

oooh i love being extra smiley and happy to rude annoying customers. it annoys them even more.

Snaf · 23/12/2007 14:12

I used to work in a bookshop and Christmas was hellish. A customer once actually threw - properly chucked - a pile of books at a colleague because she thought she wasn't being served quickly enough.

MeMySonAndI · 23/12/2007 14:21

Bettyspaguetti, I had a friend who worked in a small shoeshop for children, had an awful boss, and one day she was so fed up she locked herself in the warehouse, made a huge pile with all the shoes on the floor and then put them back in boxes (not their own or in pairs), then she walked to the till and told her she was living.

I know it was very noughty of her but deep in myself I found some admiration for her.

DumbledoreWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2007 14:30

Aww Saltire. Just think of the money and keep smiling! How is your pain these days?

Re ds1 needing one more present, why not just remove one thing from ds2's stocking? There is bound to be one thing there he doesn't look at (there speaks the woman who always gets it wrong for her own children and is beginning to think she has misjudged it again this year!)

mustsleep · 23/12/2007 14:30

sorry but i find that the people that work in the shops can be quite rude sometimes too

Blondilocks · 23/12/2007 14:35

When I was a student I worked in a supermarket in the holidays & soon got to know the rude customers. In the end when they declined help I used to just scan their shopping reeeally fast & then just smile sweetly at them when they struggled to bag it up & the people behind were glaring impatiently at them.

Some assistants ARE rude themselves tho so it's not just the customers.
