We spent about £150, but we did buy 7 bottles of wine and 3 bottles of champagne.

We aren't at home for christmas so this is all to take with us to sil's for the day itself.

We also bought beer to take with us and spent £16 on a ham to cook and take.

scrummyfairyontopofthetree · 22/12/2007 22:47

icing sugar for santa's footprints?? Won't they go sticky? I use flour and glitter.

Not spent that much at all but need to get some plonk in but that's just wine. It's just me, mum and the boys for lunch and I'm doing chicken. Boys having apple crumble and mum and I a christmas pud that she's bringing.

Joash · 22/12/2007 23:07

£179 in Morrisons today and actually got everything - makes a change for us

ShakeysGirl · 22/12/2007 23:07

About £11. We have a small frozen turkey thing from iceland, some veg, an apple crumble, toilet roll and some bread \ milk. Thats my shopping budget blown. Will be on beans and toast for other meals but it will be nice to have a cooked dinner on the day.

Tinker · 22/12/2007 23:08

Forgot celery? It would never even be on my list

handlemecarefully · 22/12/2007 23:24

I forgot toothpaste - somehow the weekly staples get overlooked amidst all the sprouts, chocolate and alcohol!

coby · 22/12/2007 23:30

Yeah celery...for making vast quantities of stock (although I tend to nick half of it while I am cooking)

susiecutiemincepies · 22/12/2007 23:33

£145 and there will only be me and DH and 11month old DD

Also, we are acually at my brothers for Christmas day!

we've decided to have a good meal here on boxing day though. I Also had to buy soap and washing up liquid, plus other store cupboard stuff too. plus an accidental buy of a £10 bottle of wine which i'll be giving as a pressie to my brother.

Forgot to get orange juice, soft drinks and eggs. pretty much a weeks shop other than that... with additional really norty stuff , a variety of biscuits and sweets... and things for freezer like spring rolls and samosas ( god knows why! )

I will be more than a few lbs heavier at the end of the season.

susiecutiemincepies · 22/12/2007 23:35

forgot ot add, I shopped in M&S as was the nearest supermarket and thought it may not be busy. which it wasnt. Most of what i bought was pre prepared too, which certainly racks up the pennies.

Quattrocento · 22/12/2007 23:35

Oh god I forgot toothpaste too - how did I do that? How even when I was asked what it was that I'd forgotten did it not occur to me that I'd forgotten toothpaste.

And batteries. PLEASE ALL OF YOU REMEMBER YOUR BATTERIES.

Twinklemegan · 22/12/2007 23:36

They are ticked off the list.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 22/12/2007 23:43

Just been to Tesco's & M&S, spent £100 intesco & £29.00 in M&S.

however my mum has brought all the mean & pudding, we don't really drink so just brought so bucks fizz & i had £11 M&S vouchers.

We have everything & we also had a weekly shop in that.

Some of these amounts are shocking, it's only christmas for 1 day you know?

Twinklemegan · 22/12/2007 23:44

What percentage of these huge shops is made up of booze then? I heard some shocking stats a few weeks ago about the amount of booze the average Briton gets through over Christmas and New Year. Madness.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 22/12/2007 23:46

I think for some people the Alchol cost alot, i suppose it depends on how many people your buying for & how much entertaining your doing over the christmas period.

SnowMuchToBits · 22/12/2007 23:54

Not sure. I went round butchers, greengrocers and tesco in a daze today, not having expected to do any of it. We were supposed to be going to my sister's in Wales tomorrow, but had a phone call this morning at 6 to say my Dad had died ( he was 88, had Alzheimer's, quite frail, was in a care home). So we have had to reorganise.

My sister in Wales and her dh have gone to stay with my Mum in Kent, and my other sister and her dp are coming to ours (they were also going to Wales), so I have had to arrange Christmas rather hastily at this end, while keeping 7 year old ds happy and coping with grief. Fortunately dh and ds have been great, and all my family are doing the best they can, but it's not what we expected. I had to grit my teeth and fight my way round Tesco when I hadn't expected to be there at all!

SnowMuchToBits · 22/12/2007 23:55

Btw, I probably forgot loads of things, as I did the entire menu plan and shopping list for Christmas in about half an hour.

Quattrocento · 22/12/2007 23:59

Scooby - I don't want to seem feckless - the issue is that we are feeding 14 - my 4, parents, and DH's entire family - and 4 of them are staying for a week.

mumeeee · 22/12/2007 23:59

About £100. Some of this was my usuall weekly shop and Ibought some cheeses to take to a family party at Mums on the 27th
Also Mil is coming tomorrow and bringing some stuff and we are going out for Christmas lunch

coldtits · 23/12/2007 00:00

Oh Snow, I am sorry about your dad, so close to Christmas

Keep well. for you.

SnowMuchToBits · 23/12/2007 00:06

Thanks coldtits - not good timing, but it could have been worse (e.g. Christmas Eve). At least family is rallying round and doing what they can.

BJB21 · 23/12/2007 09:00

my shop is so big because everything lasts for a few wks after. I buy big boxes of washing powder etc. However, as i said, no dinners included!

How do you make those footprints??

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 23/12/2007 09:22

My mum paid for ours and was around £180 but we had empty cupboards, freezer and fridge so she has basically bought about a months worth of food shopping and I just have to top up with frech fruit and veg etc.

pagwatch · 23/12/2007 09:29

Stupid stupid me
Sent DH with teenage son
They spent more than £300 but wouldn't confess how much.
That didn't include turkey or wine
but did include some alcohol and special gfcf food for DS2 which is frickin expensive!
He did also buy lots for the freezer so I don't have to try and get the DC to the shops after he goes back to work.

He didn't forget anything but I would hope not. Well done to teenage son who convinced him that we needed all that chocolate
