I'm normally quite organised but this year has been a disaster. I just cannot get into Christmas mode.

So far I have bought

A Christmas pudding
1 bottle of cava (plus 2 given to dh)
1 bottle of gin
1 bottle of Crofts
An unsmoked gammon
1 pack frozen puff pastry
1 pack frozen shortcrust pastry
2 boxes of After 8s
2 bags of clementines
Large bag of potatoes
2 lemons

What veg goes with roast beef?

carrots and greens? red cabbage?

get a bottle of winter Pimms, lovely!

Dropdeadfred · 20/12/2007 20:16

potatoes carrots sprouts leeks parsnips broccoli etc etc

What will you eat Christmas night/boxing day etc?

moondog · 20/12/2007 20:16

I'd do some green beans and a parsnip/swede and carrot mash with lots of butter and pepper.

You'll be wanting some horseradish too.

Starters?
Smoked salmon?

notnowbernardimstuffingthebird · 20/12/2007 20:16

And parsnips!

onepieceoflollipop · 20/12/2007 20:17

I would do something fairly traditional; peas, carrots and sprouts?

Why only 1 bottle of cava? Is it just for you

Have you got something to go with the pudding? We are having brandy cream, double cream and/or custard. YUM.

Myrrhcy · 20/12/2007 20:18

Oh yes, horseradish. Thank you!

You need ingredients for Yorkshire puds, or Aunt Bessie's ones, cabbage (red with red wine and sultanas and nutmeg is nice), horseradish sauce (if you are me), carrots and some orange to cook them in, parsnips maybe and perhaps some swede for swede mash.

Pudding alternative such as trifle or something less 70s.

Loads of cream.

?

Is this just Christmas lunch?

What is your menu?

moondog · 20/12/2007 20:21

Don't do loads of veg.
It's overkill.
Two or even three at the most.

DanJARMouse · 20/12/2007 20:22

chocs?
crackers?
cheese?
pickled onions?
goose fat for the roasties?

dividedselfridgesxmaswindow · 20/12/2007 20:25

Is it just me that does cauliflower cheese with Beef. My ex MIL oop North did this. I copied.

Myrrhcy · 20/12/2007 20:26

Actually it's more about the extras than the main meal. But have some ideas now, thank you.

Sausagemeat
Mincemeat
Flour
Parma ham
melon
Coke (for the ham!)
Avocados
CHEESE!!!!!!!
Salad stuff inc celery
