Filling the stockings

Out of interest.... Do you go up with the gifts and fill the stockings in their rooms while they sleep or retrieve the stockings and bring them down, fill them then take them up again?
We've done the latter. Hoping they stay asleep now!

Two stockings! One already filled, and just swap with the empty one.

dreamygirl25 · 24/12/2021 22:03

Wow that is crafty!!!

Stockings are in the living room

Starcaller · 24/12/2021 22:08

My mum did it when I was a kid and I had no idea until I was much older Grin She still has the two identical ones in her Christmas box. Means you can stuff at your leisure and not have to stay up late to put the parcels in, just in and out and done.

Oh gosh you poor naeive child.

Yes if you have the foresight, two stocking.

Or Bring it out of the room and fill out of these room. Good luck!!

BiddyPop · 24/12/2021 22:10

Stocking laid out in the sitting room so filled (well) after dd went to bed but in relative peace.

RamblingOldWoman · 24/12/2021 22:12

Stocking fillers upstairs in my bedroom in separate bags. DC take them from fireplace and upstairs with them. I go in and take them then fill them when I go to bed.

Timeisavirtue · 24/12/2021 22:12

I’ve gotta go through dc room to get to mine (weird house layout) so I grab the stocking on the way through, fill them and then put them back... sometimes they stir when we pass through so have to wait a bit... trying to keep awake is the hard part 😂

We did that! Took them downstairs, filled and crept them back up 😂 the two stockings is such a good idea!

Santa crept in and filled them but now dd is 12 and Santa doesn’t visit us anymore so she’s home to sleep with prefilled stocking in her room. No mince pie and milk left out either. End of an era in our house

Harpydragon · 24/12/2021 22:22

Two stockings and just swap the empty one for a prefilled one

liveforsummer · 24/12/2021 22:24

Mine hang the stockings in the living room then Santa fills and puts it on their bed. Couldn't use duplicates - DD2 would spot a single fibre being different

TwiggletLover · 24/12/2021 22:26

We've started putting them downstairs which makes things much easier. They didn't seem to wake up as early last year

mrsed1987 · 24/12/2021 22:28

Ours is on the fireplace and we just fill and hang on his door when we go up to bed

KaptainKaveman · 24/12/2021 22:31

My dc are 20 and 17 but still go through the whole thing: a little tray with a glass of wine, mince pie plus carrot and milk for the reindeer. Put it by the fireplace in the living room and lay out the stockings. Then I wait until late and fill them with stuff that has cost a fortune! I wonder how long we will keep it going......Grin

Takingtigermountain · 24/12/2021 22:35

My children are big now but fireplace everytime (they still put them up;23 and 15 and our two dogs) . Too nerve racking any other way ! Have a lovely Christmas !

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 24/12/2021 22:45

I’m currently having the dilemma! Our stockings are handmade so getting a replica won’t be possible (although an amazing idea!). I don’t want to go and get her stocking now and fill it and not put it back until later in case she wakes and it’s gone but equally I don’t want her to wake in the middle of the night and open her stocking and wake her sister 😬 what to do what to do!

Sherrytriflestrull · 24/12/2021 22:47

Stockings downstairs! Started because dc1 was scared at the thought of Santa coming upstairs and it became tradition, thank goodness.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 24/12/2021 22:52

We do dads big hockey socks (inherited from my parents), each kid picks one sock, I fill the other and swap.

They never seem to question why none of them can pick the same sock….

crazyjinglist · 24/12/2021 23:03

Neither. Stockings by the fireplace in the living room - no sneakiness or duplicate stockings needed!

hotchocandtwosmokybacon · 24/12/2021 23:10

Stockings always by the fireplace here

Babymamamama · 24/12/2021 23:19

My DD hasn’t believed since she was six ish but I still go through the whole rigmarole years on. Trying to stay awake till she’s asleep. Luckily we have always hung the stocking on the outside of her door handle which makes it so much easier. Tonight she is leaving out for Santa pistachios and mineral water. Makes a change I guess.

AnnaSW1 · 24/12/2021 23:20

Stockings are under the tree and appear at the end of their bed in the morning.

BornOnTwelfthNight · 24/12/2021 23:21

They used to hang the stockings on the outside of the door handle which was easier to put them back. I’d bring them downstairs to fill them then I used to hang them back on the handle.

But I had to change tactics as they would crash to the floor when dcs pulled their door handles down, So propped them up on the wall/doorframe outside their rooms instead.

Santa brings the stockings with him in this house - the elves help him pack them in his workshop and load them onto the sleigh. We put them in a big envelope and post them back to him in January for next year, with a thank you note. Wink
